Joseph Clark on Instagram: "Today we are back and I am showing you one of my favourite tips when it comes to watering your plants, specifically plants which you are growing in containers. Pots and containers are a great way to grow crops, plants, flowers and even trees, however, there is often one mistake we all make when it comes to watering them. Most containers will have a slight gap between the soil and inner side of the pot, this is especially the case with plastic pots. As water will always travel down the path of least resistance, it will funnel down the sides of the pot and out the drainage hole in the bottom. This can sometimes leave the middle of the root ball dry. Now to solve this issue it is often best to water plants (especially small plants in seed trays and small pots

Scrub your tools with baking soda paste, toothbrush, steel wool, or scouring sponge. Apply oil after the tools are thoroughly dried. I used mineral oil since that’s what we had on hand. You can use a wide variety of oils including, linseed, camellia, multi-purpose mineral or WD-40. Vegetable oils can also be used, but won’t provide long term protection from rust and lubrication and will go rancid. Each year we’ve taken in around 2-300 bags of leaves. We use them to mulch our roses and dahlias and any other perennials, and any that we can’t use in fall get stored all winter until spring. In spring, we use them to mulch around annual plants like tomatoes and cucumbers and in our walkways. If we throw a handful of soil in with the leaves and keep them wet over winter, they break down and turn into this beautiful leaf mold that can be used in the soil to help with moisture retention and nutrients. My climate is right on the line of hardiness zone where most years rosemary doesn’t perennialize in my garden so I have to buy dozens of rosemary plants each year. Rosemary is one of the easier plants to propagate! All you have to do is cut 3-4” sections and strip all of the bottom leaves off (leaving approximately 3 sets of leaves at the top), dip in rooting hormone powder, then bury the bottom portion in soil. The nodes are located where the leaves were stripped off, I aim for at least 2-3 nodes buried which is usually about 2 inches buried, but you can definitely bury more than 3 nodes. I hadn’t started this Instagram account then so unfortunately I didn’t take any step by step shots. 🙈 Hubbie built a rectangular frame from treated wooden posts, all the same level, same height. He dug 4 holes and filled with concrete all the same level but below the finished ground level. Bolted a 90 degree angle bracket to the concrete and fixed it to the bottom of the posts. The roof rafters, he knotched at one end (see pictures 1 & 2 on my stories and saved highlight) to create a fall. The end rafters need to be cut down the full length to make a tapered rafter at the same angle as the knotched rafters. See
