Glitzy Límon incredibly well-played melo bm from indonesia, dealing with the topic of the [heavily US- supported] genocide in that country. the high-water mark for a band with an already great catalog. Favorite track: The Cloak Of Disquiet.

PURE WRATH - formed 2014 in West Java, Indonesia - is the soul-stirring atmospheric Black Metal project of multi-instrumentalist Januaryo Hardy.

A continuation of preceding EP "The Forlorn Soldier", 3rd full-length "Hymn to the Woeful Hearts" is a wounded, epically emotive exploration of timeless grief which ascends to the next level - simmering down past symphonics and ramping up the bitterness, aggression, textural dynamism and melancholic conviction.

Again featuring skilled and energetic guest drumwork from Yurii Kononov (ex-WHITE WARD), PURE WRATH have here produced their deepest, darkest, most organic and engaging work to date: perfectly balancing howls of primal rage with tear-stained, hymnal sung passages, simultaneously vicious and yearning guitar-work, poignant synth, evocative acoustics and heartfelt thematic realism.

In the words of Hardy:
"The record serves as a dedication to a mother and survivor of the 1965 Indonesian genocide whose son was kidnapped, tortured and brutally beheaded. For more than fifty years she had to pretend everything was normal through every second of her sorrow, living under the shadow of the still-powerful perpetrators."

Everything comes together extremely well in this album. Probably my all time favorite black metal album now. The mix of atmospheric almost shoegaze playing leads extremely well into the intensity black metal normally has. Well, after listening to Death and Black Metal for over 35 years, it sometimes gets boring, even if bands try to innovate. But then you stumble upon an album, which immediately clicks: it fresh, but familiar. It’s emotional, intelligent and complex, but not for complexities’ sake. It flows, it works, it’s authentic. Here's to some more cosmic metal, the Karlsruhe based outfit offers crude yet extremely well produced sound in this earlier effort. Featuring mid-tempo cadences, occasional blast beating, high pitched shrieking essentially, the riffing has this mildly meaty, sensational over-atmospheric tilt that's always well received on my part. The perspective of getting sucked into a wormhole had never felt better I kid you not. Emperor and Inherits the Void in mind, you just can't skip this one. doive
