Langsames Kochen
Wie so oft nach einem schönen Urlaub versuche ich irgendwie, das Urlaubsgefühl möglichst lange in den Alltag hinüberzuretten. Da ich in den USA immer so gerne Pulled Pork esse, habe ich mir also diesmal einen Crock Pot gekauft, um das hier zuhause möglichst authentisch nachkochen zu können. In so einem Slow Cooker kann man aber auch noch jede Menge andere leckere Sachen kochen. Gulasch, Chili con Carne oder eine Bolognese-Soße, allgemein jegliche Eintöpfe werden - bei niedriger Temperatur, aber dafür umso länger gekocht - extrem lecker und aromatisch. Fleischgerichte und Braten werden superzart. Kein Umrühren oder Anbrennen - einmal befüllt kocht der Crocky selbstständig vor sich hin. Für mich ein tolles neues "Spielzeug" in meiner Küche!

Tula Halbzeit
Von den 100 City Sampler Blöcken sind jetzt die Hälfte genäht. Diese Woche waren Block #50 und #51 dran. Auch hier kam wieder der Tropfenstoff zum Einsatz. Habt ihr ihn erkannt?

Reisebericht 6. und letzter Teil
Vom Yosemite NP sind wir nach San Francisco gefahren. Die Golden Gate Bridge, die zunächst wunderbar zu sehen war, hatte sich aber leider - wie so oft - in dichten Nebel gehüllt, bis wir sie erreichten.
Dann ging es die Küste entlang nach Süden, zunächst durch Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel und dann auf dem berühmten kalifornischen Küstenhighway #1 bis Pismo Beach. Dann weiter nach Santa Barbara und schließlich zurück nach Los Angeles. Zum Abschluss unseres vierwöchigen Urlaubs haben wir noch zwei Tage im wunderbaren San Diego verbracht, bevor es wieder zurück nach Deutschland ging.

Then we headed southbound along the coast, through Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel and finally on the famous Californian Coastal Highway # 1 to Pismo Beach. Then on to Santa Barbara and back to Los Angeles. At the end of our four-week vacation we spent two wonderful days in San Diego, before we had to fly back to Germany.

5. Teil der USA-Reise
Natürlich haben wir uns auch Las Vegas angeschaut, das sich seit den 70er Jahre ziemlich verändert hat. Danach waren wir im Death Valley National Park mit seinen beeindruckenden Landschaftsformationen. Das mit einer Salzkruste bedeckte Badwater Basin liegt 86m unter dem Meeresspiegel und ist somit der tiefste Punkt Nordamerikas!
Die Geisterstadt Rhyolite mit den Skulpturen von Albert Szukalski (sehr cool!) lag auch auf unserer Route, ebenso wie das Devil's Postpile National Monument, ein Kliff aus unglaublich regelmäßigen sechseckigen Basaltsäulen in der Sierra Nevada.
Vorbei am Mono Lake mit seinen bizarren Kalktuff-Gebilden ging's dann zum Yosemite National Park.
Of course we have also paid Las Vegas a short visit, which has changed quite a bit since the 70s. Then we went on to Death Valley National Park with its impressive landscape formations. Badwater Basin, which is covered with a salt crust, is located 86m below sea level and is the lowest point in North America!
Along our route lay the ghost town of Rhyolite with the sculptures of Albert Szukalski (very cool!), as well as the Devil's Postpile National Monument, a cliff in the Sierra Nevada formed from incredibly regular hexagonal basalt columns.
Passing Mono Lake with its bizarre tufa structures we finally drove to Yosemite National Park.

Und weiter geht die Reise - USA Teil 4
Unser nächster Halt nach Albuquerque war das El Morro National Monument in New Mexico.
Dort haben alle Arten von Reisenden im Laufe der letzten Jahrhunderte ihre Namen und Geschichten in den Sandstein einer gigantischen Felsformation, den Inscription Rock, graviert.
Von Flagstaff aus haben wir eine Abstecher ins wunderbare Sedona gemacht und sind dann weiter zum Lake Mohave gefahren. Schließlich ging's am Lake Mead und dem Hoover Dam vorbei zu einem weiteren Highlight der Reise: dem Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada.

There, in the course of the last centuries, all kinds of travellers have engraved their names and stories in the sandstone of a gigantic rock formation, the Inscription Rock.
From Flagstaff we made an excursion to wonderful Sedona and then drove on to Lake Mohave. Finally, passing Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam, we drove to another highlight of the trip: the Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada.
