Kubo won't let me be invisible

cover image for kubo-san for the first "proper anime review" on this page, we have "Kubo won't let me be invisible", an anime based on a manga that aired in 2023. It follows the main character, Junta Shiraishi, who isnt anything but a main character to most of the world. people do not acknowledge him easily or even notice he even exists most of the time. This leads to people just straight up walking into him, automatic doors not opening, people going to sit on him because they did not see him there, etc. However, there is one person that can somehow always find him, being Nagisa Kubo. She has decided to ensure that Shiraishi does not fade into the background for some reason, putting him through many interesting situations to put this "invisibility" to the test.

At first you can easily chalk up kubo's actions as just fooling around because shes bored or something, but as you progress further into the anime it becomes pretty apparent that she is probably in love with Shiraishi. Kobu ends up wanting to spend more time with him and just hang out with him in general, much to his dismay. She can also be found doing some pretty interesting things to him, a good example of this is when he comes back in from doing some kind of running test outside. Kubo attempts to get close to him, but he runs away claiming he is sweaty and disgusting. Instead of leaving it at that, she instead comes closer anyway (the anime honestly makes it look like she is going in for a sniff, ew) while claiming that it is not a big deal. She then later hands him some kind of sweat-removing wipe thing and has him use it. After doing so, she claims that since she also used them, they match in smells, as weird as that is.

The best example of Shiaraishi being dense as a bunch of bricks is when Kubo invites herself to go with him on the release day of some movie based on a manga he likes. They arrive, but realize theyd have to wait for a later viewing to sit next to eachother. This in itself isnt weird, given if they went together theyd probably want to sit next to eachother to watch the movie, but it gets really obvious that kubo likes him when they go to kill time while waiting for their showing to start. they have go have coffee, where kubo wants what Shiraishi is having for fairly obvious reasons (but is not stated in the show, argh), then they go do some shopping, go over to the arcade and have a good time. This is very obviously a date but this fucking bro is too dense to realize that it is. Another good example of this is when Kubo more or less admits to giving him the cookie that he found left in his desk on valentines day. Why would she go through the effort of baking a cookie for him anyway if she didnt like him? Thats really the main gripe i have with the show, Shiraishi is extremely fucking dense and should just take the hint already.

Other then that, fairly average slice of life/romcom show, Kubo is adorable, makes you feel good watching it, etc.
tl;dr for lazy people:
-decent show
-the main dude is denser then fucking bricks
-kubo is absolutely adorable
-mildly disapointing ending
-bro got gaslit to go on a date so
-otherwise feels closer to slice of life then romance

Horimiya

Going into this show, I was expecting it to be atleast somewhat decent, based on the fact it had a MAL score of 8.2. As expected, it was a pretty good show!

The main plotline throughout the show is following Izumi Miyamura's relationship as it develops throughout the episodes. A good example of this is how Miyamura starts out as an extremely depressed loner who hates everything about school life, and whom essentially has no friends. He then meets Kyouko Hori, a seemingly prim and proper school girl who is revealed later to actually be more of a home-maker as she has to constantly take care of her younger brother. They happen to have a chance meeting when Miyamura finds hori's younger brother hurt outside and returns him home.

They start talking and eventually Miyamura starts coming over to hori's house on the regular. They continue to bond from their interactions and other things, such as Miyamura taking care of Hori when she is sick. The two of them are well written and bounce off of eachother pretty well. There are a few occasions where Hori acts like an asshole, but that happens to be balanced out by Miyamura being a complete sweetheart, despite his background. Hori is able to get him to come out of his shell almost entirely, and he is near unreconizable by the end of the show. Despite hori being borderline toxic on occasion, their relationship is a fairly wholesome arc and makes you feel good.

Hori has some other, "notable", traits to her however. She gets extremely jelous very easily, as shown multiple times where she gets jelous when other girls start to notice Miyamura after he cuts his hair. She also, weirdly, gets jelous when miyamura starts talking to other boys, seemingly thinking they pose more of a threat of taking him away from her then another girl does of doing the same thing. Hori can also show some violent tendacies also, and ends up lashing out at Miyamura on occasion. This is more or less the "toxic" part i mentioned eariler.

Outside of the "main arc", there are several side stories about other character's relationships, daily hardships, and other various things. They just add to the quality of the overall anime, but all these things happening eventually tie back to Miyamura's relationship with Hori, which is why most of this review was written about them. Also, the fact that writing reviews is hard and me being woefully underqualified to write such things in the first place.

Overall, fairly comfy show, would reccomend if you like romcoms and/or slice of life animes, I guess
tl;dr for lazy people:
-pretty good show
-mc and mf work well together
-good character arc for both of them
-cute
-hori is extremely jelous though lmao
-some of the episodes felt like filler but had nice side stories so not too bad
-did i mention hori is cute?
