FLVXXX and Her Nice Too kick off Reveries 2025 with a joint EP, drawing inspiration from the legacy of dub within electronic music.
The EP captures the essence of a night spent in front of the soundsystem, paying tribute to the dancefloor. Through these four tracks, the artists explore different energies, each carefully crafted to resonate in its own way while maintaining a cohesive flow.
‘Over’ ignites the record with the smouldering energy of a feverish warm-up. Enchanting pads, organic percussion and raw, timeworn vocals—like the ghostly echoes of pirate radio cutting through the ether—coalesce into a wistful 123 bpm-dub riddim, purpose-built to ripple through your most cherished soundsystem.”
'Natty Moon' is a vibrant deconstruction of dub running at 140bpm. The main theme nods to 'Super Ape' arrangements, but the use of a soul sample's chops segues the track into a Chicago house direction, delighting the more nostalgic listeners. It's a joyful, laid-back tune with powerful basslines that adventurous DJs can confidently drop during peak time.
‘Timeless’ stands as a tribute to contemporary UK techno. Shimmering metallic layers intertwine with colossal chords, crafting a vast, expansive rhythm, underpinned by deep bass influences. At 140 bpm, this peak-time anthem is designed to stir the dancefloor, balancing fervour and inner peace in a single pulse.
When remixing 'Over’, Her Nice Too aimed to cook up a techno juggernaut that would hit vibes totally opposite to the original. Think mixing the raw, primal feel of backyard ghetto house with the grooves of UK garage. The experiment pays off—big time. The track starts with a relentless bassline loop before, out of nowhere, a church-like lo-fi synth takes over. It then leaves room for an outro bursting with those early 2000s minimalist sounds.
