She bought a one way ticket to a faraway land She bought a one way ticket to a faraway land She listened to the words of a mystical man Now She’s leaving home She bought a one way ticket to a distant land She bought a one way ticket to a distant land She keeps hearing voices from the miracle man Now She’s leaving home She’s got a one way ticket yeah She’s got a one way ticket yeah She’s got a one way ticket yeah She bought a one way ticket and She’s coming home She bought a one way ticket and She’s coming home Sometimes things don’t seem to work out Now She’s coming home Yeah She’s coming home She’s got a one way ticket Yeah She’s coming home She’s got a one way ticket

You you wait for me every night With hugs and embraces so tight Each night I get home I feel high Ooh Your your elegant ways I admire You make all my days so alive Your beauty is time I say Whoa we’re climbing the ladder of love Climbing the ladder of love Climbing the ladder of love High above there’s a magical night The sky is wide open and quiet Its permanence will not expire Ooh My wanderlust like a call from the choir And the restlessness leaves me to tire Your beauty is time I say Whoa we’re climbing the ladder of love Climbing the ladder of love Climbing the ladder of love Oh I heard all the stories before The cries from the victims of war The pain of the battered and bruised Love and compassion Is the only we will get through The only way we will get to Your beauty in time I say Whoa we’re climbing the ladder of love Climbing the ladder of love Climbing the ladder of love Climbing the ladder of love

In The City 04:08
Does it seem so long ago yesterday or maybe no Can’t remember can’t recall I just don’t know Saw it there out in the void out of focus polaroid Trapped inside a haunted house like an android Everyone is at the scene In The City Everyone is at the scene In The City People looking so destroyed standing round unemployed Air pollution everywhere you go Yellow taxis in a row politicians getting low Mattress on a fire escape guards are at the gate Everyone is at the scene In The City Everyone is at the scene In The City Does it seem so long ago yesterday or maybe no Can’t remember can’t recall I just don’t know Saw it there out in the void out of focus polaroid Trapped inside a haunted house like an android Everyone is at the scene In The City

90 degrees seven days a week Heat bearing down I’m standing underneath the concrete I see these people spinning around wearing a frown everywhere Boston town has got me down from Beacon Hill to Harvard Square OOOH It’s impossible OOOH It’s impossible Amen 90 degrees seven days a week TV screens Ivy leaguers with computer dreams Boston town has got me down yeah it’s got me down really down So many people walking around in this old town Boston town OOOH It’s impossible OOOH It’s impossible Amen Boston town has got me down yeah it’s got me down really down So many people walking around in this old town Boston town OOOH It’s impossible OOOH It’s impossible Amen 90 degrees seven days a week Heat bearing down I’m standing underneath the concrete I see these people spinning around wearing a frown everywhere Boston town has got me down from Beacon Hill to Harvard Square OOOH It’s impossible OOOH It’s impossible Amen

OOOH It’s impossible OOOH It’s impossible Amen HOT AUGUST NIGHT Hot August night summer’s ending The stars are out of sight The sky is lifting and my mind is far away On a hot August night Train rolling through heading uptown Staring at my shoes I’m in the last car I’m singing a song On a hot August night Time keeps a moving racing like a river of yesterday Time sits in silence Like a Buddha in the garden of resistance Swept away Hot August night standing on a corner beer in my hand ‘Neath the window of the street where I stand On a hot August night Hot August night summer’s ending The stars are out of sight The sky is lifting and my mind is far away On this hot August day On this hot August day On this hot August night

Well the game is played almost every day On the big chess board just like on holiday And the deals are made always on the side But your mouth is shut and your hands are tied When the sun comes up you get down low In a shut down town And when the sun goes down you just don’t know… In a shut down town No one came to the dance today Under vacant roofs and the money paid And the dusty towns they all disappeared Like a drive-in movie from yesteryear When the sun comes up you get down low In a shut down town And when the sun goes down you just don’t know In a shut down town It’s been a hard days night at the OK corral And the ancient city it was breaking down Illumination it had seen it’s day Having been replaced by a new charade When the sun comes up you get down low In a shut down town And when the sun goes down you just don’t know In a shut down town

Almost Gone 02:55
Saw the words on a wall listening to me Heard the sound of a bell echoing free They were almost gone into the mist They were almost gone like a withering wish I was fading out of view hiding in song With an aerial view hovering I was almost gone floating away I was almost gone wandering free There was a time there was a time When summer was mine There was a time there was a time When summer was mine I was almost gone floating away I was almost gone wandering free We were on an open sea sailing away Soaring into the wind circling We were almost gone drifting away We were almost gone gliding through the haze

The last man standing sat alone in a room He looked in the mirror face to face with doom The mirror shattered and scattered Like a swarm of bees The last man on earth could it be me The last man standing opens up the door Picks up a newspaper dated 1804 Did I land in the past did I lose control Did I fall through earth into a black hole Did I land in the past did I lose control Did I fall through earth into a black hole The last man standing…….

May Song 03:34
Could you see me sitting on a cloud Could you see me traveling earthward bound Looking at the walls with a song in my head Walking round in circles in a mild distress Could you see me walking in my sleep Could you see me walking inside your dream Looking at the walls with a song in my head Walking round in circles in a mild distress This may be a May song a May song This may be a May song a May song Could you see me sitting by a stream Could you see me hiding behind a screen Looking at the walls with a song in my head Walking round in circles in a mild distress This may be a May song a May song This may be a May song a May song

Diamond 02:54
Diamond night and the moon is like a circle in the sky Gonna travel from the country road to the city lights Baby could I ever be Baby could I ever be free Baby I could I ever believe you’re never gonna break my heart Waiting for a rendezvous in the kingdom of the kings Somewhere in middle of the chapter and verse and the book it says to me Baby could I ever be Baby could I ever be free Baby I could I ever believe you’re never gonna break my heart Well I see that times are different from the times we once survived But it’s been so long ago I can’t deny And the remedies we take that get us through these days and nights Are like staring at the cat’s eyes in the night When I look for answers to the questions that I seek There are words that are written in the presence of the Queen Baby could I ever be Baby could I ever be free Baby I could I ever believe you’re never gonna break my heart The dream comes to me like a flame from the sea Diamond night and the moon is like a circle in the sky Gonna travel from the country road to the city lights Baby could I ever be Baby could I ever be free Baby I could I ever believe you’re never gonna break my heart

FIVE MISTAKES I count five mistakes And 10 misjudgments left egg on my face And I bend with the wind My doors are wide open but you can’t come in And I try and I try I see no reason why But if you listen All the world’s singing Auld Lang Syne She said your songs are so sad Take a look in the mirror kiss your face and be glad And there’s a hole in the wall Plays joyous music where the people stand tall And I try and I try I try to get myself by But if you listen All the world’s singing Auld Lang Syne I count five mistakes and 10 misjudgments left egg on my face

about

Twelve tales, no ponies.

On their eighth album, Pony Tales, Rome 56 proves that Arthur Lamonica—who once penned hits for The Shirts at CBGB—still has plenty to say. These stories swing from future-gazing anthems (One Way Ticket) to sci-fi dreamscapes (The Last Man Standing), with melodic rock that knows when to floor it and when to ease off the gas. Knopfler-esque guitar lines weave through lush keyboards while Lamonica's vocals carry that Costello-like bite that cuts through the prettiness. Recorded between New York and Amsterdam, it's a record that refuses to stay in one place—geographically or sonically—from a band that looks forward, sideways and deep within.

Twelve tales worth the detour.

about

Rome 56 New York, New York

Rome 56 is vintage yet new. It is yellow and weathered yet crisp and fresh. It combines an old and new feel - almost as if refurbished. I can see Hunter S Thompson sitting front row at one of these shows.
