Doves

First we have the Eurasion Collared Dove above....compare it to the Mourning Dove below.  You can see differences.

Also, do you notice the almost iridescent colors of purple and blue on the Mourning Dove.  On top of his head and neck.   I suppose it was the lighting, but I have never seen that before.

These two doves were lit in the road ahead of us while driving through the strip pits last night.

The hawk below is just two views of the same hawk...

I have tried to improve them, and I guess they are improved when compared to the straight out of the camera shot.  Both are cropped photos.

This hawk was from a different day, a bit farther west than the strip pits.

Today's sighting

I ran an errand today, and when I came back home, I saw this....I quickly grabbed my camera.  I first took a couple through the windshield in case it flew when I opened the door.  Lucky me, it stayed.

It was a good thing it stayed because the one through the windshield were not good.  There are always a few morning doves around here, but I seldom get the opportunity to be close enough to get a decent shot like these.

A bird from the summer...

I had completely forgotten taking this photo...one of the few shots I have taken this summer. 

We went for a short drive today...I was looking for a barn.  Or rather where a barn used to be.  It was torn down the last time I went by...but I didn't find the spot...but did run across this place which I have photographed before but it has been a long time.

I was about to pull away when something caught my eye....

I saw what it was and quickly zoomed in...I think it was a bit cold for it today and it was sitting there to absorb some sunshine.

It was 6ºF along about 7:30 this morn, then a couple hours later it was 3ºF....yep, you read that right.  It went down a bit more before it started getting warmer.  We saw this dove and it was not long before I looked at the thermometer on the car and it was all of 11ºF.
