Stileto

I am pretty sure this is the second knife my husband made...many, many moons ago.

Firsts

The small knife is the first knife Roger ever made...late 1970's...he did the fine fine sanding and buffing when he started setting up his shop to be able to make knives around 2007.  And the bigger knife is the first knife he made in here.

Almost forgot Tuesday's Treasures

These pics were posted a couple years ago, but it is still a treasure so am going to show the pics of it again.

It is a knife Roger made me.

I think it one of the prettiest he has made.

I walked into the garage when he was finishing it up and fell in love with it.

It fits my hand perfectly.

It is the second one has made and given to me.

Linking this to Tom's Tuesday's Treasures.

Can't decide which photo...

so be prepared.  I am posting a lot...specially for this blog.  The following are all pictures of the same knife...just different views.

I happened into his shop when he was first making it

And I fell in love with it....

He told me I could have it.

I offered to trade my other one for it but he told me to keep both...

He was planning to make this one to sale, instead I got it!

He is working on one right now for a buddy he worked with for years...after that I should have be able to post a few along that he will be selling.

Roger has been busy, too

This is the second of this combat style knife Roger has made.  I really, really like the looks of it.
Another nice little knife...deer antler and red linen-based Micarta handle.
This one is paper-based Micarta.

Don't you love this one?

Of all the knives my husband has made, this is probably my favorite one....I don't usually like bigger knives but I sure like this one. Most would probably consider it normal size...it is made for one of his friends/fellow retirees. His friend supplied the antler/horn for the handle. We don't know what it is from. He picked it up somewhere in his travels.
It was a lot rougher before my husband worked the handles. The bit of brass on the butt of the knife is an added touch that just sets the knife off in my opinion.
I really like this view because it shows the handle to advantage....

Roger's latest creation

Roger has been busy for a while now...working on this knife. It would take more time than I have now, and more knowledge than I have without interviewing him to tell the process. All I know is that whether the handle is made of wood, bone, or antler...it really is a process to get it ready. He has them in this old non-working fridge for a month or more beforehand to dry out. The fridge has a 25 watt bulb in it, and it is on all the time.

Then he puts them in a jar of polyurethane that has a vacuum on it for 24 hours. Next. they are taken out and put back in the fridge till they dry--usually another two or three weeks. That is just the handle.
But the results are well worth the effort.
He made this one for the son of a friend....and gave it to him tonight. He works where Roger used to work, and like his dad and Roger ....he likes hunting and fishing.
Roger even makes the sheathes.
I really like the finished product....
