Sleeping/not sleeping...

 We managed to wander down to Goose Pond on this past Friday....I was hoping to see some something.  Two or three roads we wanted to go down were covered by water.   We did see a few ducks, and several hawks...and I was about to give up and head home and Lo and behold, I spotted these.  They were so far away I could not tell what they were.

I walked down till I was opposite them...I was still a distance away...though these photos are not the best, I am also amazed they are as good as they are.  The wind was off and iceberg and strong enough to cut right through a person.  If I had had an umbrella I could have become Mary Poppins.  So was luck that they are not terrible blurry just from the wind factor alone.

I so hope to get down there a time or two this year.  It is an hour's drive...

Yesterday we went down to Goose Pond near Linton, Indiana.  Ignoring the rain, we hit the jackpot with pelicans...

It was misting rain and getting my camera wet...

We drove down to the Goose Pond Wetland area yesterday evening hoping to see something/some kind of birds.

My blog buddy Mary had been down there a while back and saw pelicans and I was hoping to see some.  We were not disappointed.

We were very lucky in that there was a group of them at one pond that was close enough for me to get these shots.  Notice the 'growths' near the end of the beaks on some of the ones above...I have no idea what it means.  I have not did any real research on it...only looked at Cornell's All About Birds and they did not mention it, but their photo showed it.  (These photos are definitely better if clicked to expand the view.)

It was as if they were trying to do synchronized swimming....They would swim straight ahead as in the first shot for a bit, then turn and swim towards the little island, and all would duck under water at the same time.
