Louise Lapworth I love this sonic diary entry from Randy. You can hear that he is evolving his musical palette with new sounds. From the ambient textures of instrumental opener ‘Gloaming’ to the power pop of ‘Try to Hide’, with its bouncing, driving bass line and a plethora of catchy synth riffs, to the atmospheric songwriting of ‘Drift’ and his emotion-filled vocal on ‘Disguised’, this is an accomplished blending of genres and styles. Fantastic stuff. Favorite track: Try To Hide.

Patrick Thaddeus Jackson The truly hysterical thing is that when I downloaded this and imported it into iTunes, the cover art automatch pulled up a My Little Pony album with the same title. I like Randy's summer holiday much better :-)

Try To Hide 05:31
I’ve said enough for a while It’s just the same old process I’m not afraid of the dark The lies and the spark I won’t cover my eyes I won’t run through the day To make my escape Or try to hide I will look for the words To conquer the urge to fly away And leave before I know It’s been a long road to heal The scars reveal their sorrow I’m not ashamed as a son Of the man I’ve become But I still fight my disguise I won’t run through the day To make my escape Or try to hide I will look for the words To conquer the urge to fly away And leave before I know Sometimes I can’t see Blinded by desires To be free and live according to me As selfish as that sounds I know I could still exist inside a vacuum Where nothing else could penetrate A summer holiday Until it’s time to say goodbye

Drift 05:09
Many of us fear the blank page Mystery and silence Little guidance for Weathering silent storms Formed loosely over misunderstandings Crash landing through so many trees Always in need of someone I should have learned long ago To believe in the flow Of love in my heart As the birds in the sky Preside over tear-stained eyes Looking to satisfy the world Many of us can lose our passions Stray from the path to freedom Turning inside out Embers glowing But still unsure of its meaning Is it pleasing me? Or just teasing what could be The light in my dream I should have seen long ago Every high has a low And the place between is unknown As the birds in the sky Preside over all who died Trying to satisfy the world See if the day brings some rain Rushing down stairs to the drain Careful to not drift too far away

Disguised 04:28
They say there is only one way through Time has a way of showing you All our best mistakes Resold as something new But I’m beginning to lose my faith And I wouldn’t know where to start believing again Cause we can’t tell the difference between Gods and psychopathic men Who will follow in their footsteps? When love is a killer Disguised as a friend They say that you will just figure out How to resist drowning in your self doubt You can read those books Then forget all about The truth in some dusty pages That cut you down And I wouldn’t know where to start believing again Cause we can’t find a balance between chaos and zen Who wants to admit that they pretend? When fear is a switchblade Disguised as a pen Who are we/Who we are when we’re not trapped inside All of our vices and truth denied Right in focus While no one noticed but you And I wouldn’t know where to start believing again Cause we can’t think of reasons to be at peace with who, where and when How many messages are left to send? When power is creation Disguised as the end

about

“These four pieces were written and recorded in the Summer of 2025, between world tours with Steven Wilson. They represent another evolution in my songwriting, exploring new sounds and instruments by myself at home. The mixes have been handled beautifully by one of my favorite long-time collaborators, Tim Palmer. I'm very happy with the results, and I want to put music out more frequently while it's fresh. There is a lot in development which I’ll return to at the end of the year…”
