Monica created by cartoonist and entrepreneur Mauricio de Sousa; It originated in 1959 in a series of newspaper comic strips, in which the main characters were Bidu and Franjinha. From 1960, the series began to gain the current identity with the creation of Monica and Cebolinha between 1960 and 1963, which have become the protagonists. In 2008 it created a spin-off based on the style of Japanese comics, called Monica Teen with the characters already adolescents.
