Ceramic vessel by Barry Stedman
There's a wonderfully warm, joyful feeling when you gaze at Barry Stedman's ceramic vessels. Inspired by mark making and painting, Barry takes a relaxed and direct approach to making vessels, exploring vibrant colour compositions and exploiting the gestural qualities of fluid brush marks and soft clay. Most of his work is made with red earthenware clay, and is usually wheel thrown and altered or constructed from soft slabs, then painted with coloured slips, stains, oxides and glaze. Shown: Thrown Altered Vessel with Deep Orange and Dark Blue, by Barry Stedman 9 x 10cm, Earthenware DM the KMA team or visit us in the gallery at 20 Market St, The Lanes, Brighton to see more of his available works. #ceramics

Porcelain and gold figures by Jemma Gowland at Kellie Miller Arts
'Felicia and the pot of pinks' by Jemma Gowland. 41 x 15 x 12cm Porcelain and gold lustre. Jemma’s evocative body of work explores the way that girls are constrained from birth to conform to an appearance and code of behaviour, to present a perfect face and maintain the expectations of others. The use of porcelain, or of stoneware with layered disrupted surfaces, alludes to the vulnerability beneath. Contact the gallery: gallery@kelliemillerarts.com for more information.

Spring Ceramics by Maria Ten Kortenaar
For award-winning artist Maria Ten Kortenaar, porcelain is a medium that allows her to express what she perceives, feels and experiences in everyday life. Through it, she can translate impressions into her artworks. The titles of Maria’s pieces are links to personal memories. Shown here is 'Waterlily I', inspired by a visit to Monet's Garden at Giverny. Maria mixes colours through her porcelain and builds her objects piece by piece, which is why the patterns are visible inside and out. This is a Japanese style of ceramics called #Nerikomi, or the inlay technique. ‘Waterlily I’ by @mariatenkortenaar 11 x 18 x 18cm, porcelain DM to enquire about Maria’s work or email gallery@kelliemillerarts.com

Handmade Ceramics by Phil Jolley at Kellie Miller Arts
The passing of time, erosion and chronology are often referenced in Phil Jolley’s work. The hidden detail and fragments still remain an integral part of each object. Phil has used a selection of typographical inclusions from vintage letter presses and moulds from historical inscriptions, even lettering from gravestones. The texture of the clay, colour and contrast of the glaze, slip and lustre add to the suggestion of the erosion of both time and object. Further enhancing the relic like qualities of each piece. #oldrelics #chronology #ceramicartlover #historicalceramics #letterpressart
Japanese inspired Guinomi Cups
Tim Copsey @timcopseypottery describes his work as 'space debris' - vessels, cups, bottles and bowls that are on the border between function and sculpture. His work is inspired by the landscapes surrounding the Pennines and explores how the land has been distorted and eroded over time as a result of both man-made and natural occurrences. Tim's fascination with Japanese forms and techniques, early experiments in camouflage such as dazzle, Prehistoric ceramic forms and Situationist art are also felt within his work.
