Scarab Beetles
Scarabaeus sacer is a species of dung beetle. Among the coprophagous species of beetles, it is typical of those that collect dung into balls.The family Scarabaeidae as currently defined consists of over 30,000 species of beetles worldwide. Scarabs were popular amulets in ancient Egypt. They survive in large numbers and, through their inscriptions and typology, they are an important source of information for archeologists and historians of the Ancient world.
