It tells you everything you need to begin growing your own natural dyes, including how to set up a no-dig garden, sowing, growing and harvesting advice per plant. And also how to create dyes and patterns on cloth ✨ Here are the dye plants the book covers: 🌻 Hopi Black Dye Sunflowers - the seeds contain dye 🧡 Marigolds – specifically ‘Tagetes’ marigolds, not calendula 🌼 Dyer’s chamomile – Anthemis tinctoria, also known as Cota tinctoria, different from medicinal chamomile 💛 Coreopsis – there are many varieties and they all contain dye 🧡 Sulphur cosmos 🌸 Various cosmos like Cosmos bipinatus (ideal for bun

You’ll get different colours from different varieties. The purple colour sadly doesn’t last very long with exposure to sunlight, but it does last for a while. It’s still worth trying rosemary in your dye pot, just to experience this beautiful colour. Other scented herbs work well for natural dyeing too. Some favourites are sage, lavender and bay 🍃 Many of these herbs contain tannins which give long lasting dye. Have you tried any of these herbal dyes? #naturaldyes #naturaldyeing #mylocaldyeplants #botanicaldyes #plantdye #herbaldye"

It’s full of natural dye techniques for creating vibrant colours and patterns, including this plant pounding method. Some tips to get you started: 📌 Leaves to try: nettle, sage, yarrow, mint, and lemon balm. 📌 Experiment with any soft, fresh leaf for interesting results. 📌 Richly pigmented flowers work wonderfully too! 📌 Don’t hammer dry, shiny leaves like eucalyptus or bay – they won’t release any color. 📌 For the clearest prints, go for a fine, smooth fabric over a textured one. 👉 Thinking of giving this natural dyeing technique a g

It helps achieve deeper, longer lasting colours. I followed my usual natural dye method that’s in Botanical Colour at your Fingertips 📗 It’s interesting how willow leaves give a very similar colour to avocado skins and stones. It’s the same for hawthorn and linden leaves. These plants all contain the same kind of tannins and make this pinkish-brown. Have you made this same pinkish-brown colour from dyeing with any other plants?"

Rebecca Desnos 🌿 Natural Dyeing on Instagram: "A recipe to dye a healing scarf 💛 Turmeric has been used as a dye in Asia for generations. It’s one of the herbs used in Ayurvastra, which is a branch of ayurveda where fabric is dyed with healing herbs. I can’t make any promises, but there are studies that show that Ayurvastra-dyed clothing can give relief to some conditions such as eczema. So why not dye yourself a soothing scarf or other clothing? 😌🍊💛 Try this dyeing method with pomegranate skins as a premordant — pomegranate skins produce yellow dye, and the tannins act as a natural mordant. Then over dye the cloth with turmeric. The intense yellow from the turmeric will eventually fade in sunlight, but you can redye your fabric in turmeric to top up the goodness. 🗣️ Just drop

52K views · 7.8K reactions | Ice dyeing is probably the most magical dye process! The asmr sounds of the ice and water drips is just a precursor to the visual experience you get in the end. Sometimes it ends up looking like a Monet painting or a sunset or like a galaxy in space. Every piece is it’s own wearable piece of art. If you’ve ever wanted to try ice dyeing out for yourself here is a quick breakdown on how to do it. 1) Soak your piece of clothing in a soda ash and water bath for 20 min. 2) Wring out the excess water and bunch and scrunch it on a grate that is over a plastic bin so it catches the water from the ice as it melts. 3) Cover your piece in ice making sure to cover the Enders as best of possible. 4) Using powder dye for this method is what creates all the different color variations since the powder is made up of a bunch of different pigments. So when you sprinkle it on top of the ice it let’s them separate from each other and disperse themselves all around which makes that watercolor effect. 5) Once the ice is all melted, rinse out your item out in cold water until the water runs clear before tossing it in the washing machine on cold then tumble dry low. If you give it a try then tag me so I can see it!! And if you’re not exactly sure how to do I have DIY ice dyeing kits! #crafty #diycrafts #artsandcrafts #textiledesign #diy #tiedye #icedye #crafts | Ashley Owens

This is important and will give a brighter dye colour. 🥑 As you collect the skins and pits, you can freeze or dry them. Freezing tends to give better results. 🥑 Use gentle heat to coax out the dye. Intense heat may turn it brown. 🥑 The dye colour may take a cou
