Jackie McLean was an American Jazz Alto Saxophonist, Composer, Bandleader and Educator  He started on Alto when he was 15.  As a teenager he was friends with such neighbors as Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, and Sonny Rollins and he made his recording debut with Miles Davis in 1951.  He is one of the few musicians to be elected to the Down Beat Hall of Fame in the year of his death.

Gerry Mulligan was an American Jazz Saxophonist, Clarinetist, Musician, Composer and Arranger.  He was as one of the leading Jazz Baritone Saxophonists in the era of Cool Jazz.  He was also a significant arranger, working with Miles Davis, Stan Kenton and others.  He played with Chet Baker who is still one of the best Cool Jazz Group.  He was also a skilled pianist and played several other reed instruments and several of his compositions, such as "Walkin' Shoes" and "Five Brothers", have become Jazz Standards.
