about

“I Found A Reason” originally recorded by The Velvet Underground; this version takes from the album version and the demo released with one of the Loaded box sets. Recorded in 2021 on a Tascam Portastudio MF-P01.

“Lonely Financial Zone” originally recorded by Jonathan Richman; this version was part of a Jonathan Richman covers compilation, organized by Guillaume that put together the Television Personalities covers compilation “The Boy Who Paints Rainbows.” After submitting the tracks, paying to ship cassettes to me, I simply never heard from him again. There was a beautiful front cover painting made, Tony Jay, Cindy, Burner Herzog, and Jowe Head submitted tracks. I honestly have no idea what happened that led to this album not being released. Recorded in 2021 on a Tascam Midistudio 688 + DAW.

“The Fall” originally recorded by Beat Happening; this version was recorded for the Sad Eyed Beatniks compilation “Bestniks” released on Under The Counter Tapes in 2019. I think we had too many songs to choose from and eventually this one was cut. Shortly after doing this release I offered to do art for a Bernie Sanders campaign compilation for Under The Counter Tapes, paid for the box set, then never received the order as the label was shut down soon after. I offered to buy up the remaining Bestniks tapes, but never got a real response about why I couldn’t. Recorded in 2019 on a Tascam Portastudio MF-P01.

“Little Delia” originally recorded by Blind Willie McTell; this cover takes from the version from the Atlanta Twelve String album. An album I had avoided for years as McTell had audibly aged, became raspier, and slowed down his tunes. This became one of my most listened to songs/recordings around that time. “Rubber-tired buggy / double-seated hack” is such a great line that I flub in this performance. Recorded on an iPhone Voice Memo in 2021.

“The Part Where” originally recorded by The Oilies as a demo on their Bandcamp. The first few live performances of Sad Eyed Beatniks included a version of this cover. Anything within The Mantles / Art Museums sphere has always sold me; though I did end up passing on the Helpful People album that Carly and Glenn made - likely a mistake. Recorded in 2021 on a Tascam Portastudio MF-P01.

“I Had To Tell You” originally recorded by The 13th Floor Elevators; this version appeared on the free tape Curio Shop’s Ruse that was included with the Places Of Interest album. Though, it was somewhat buried between various sparse recordings. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite songs ever. Recorded in 2021 on a Tascam Portastudio MF-P01.
