The second single by Sasta, Slow Flame, is due for release on 12/6/23. This track shows us a new side of the brooklyn-based artist. A new dimension that is trippy, dubby and dripping with texture.

Slow Flame was created in a mountaintop cabin in the woods of Woodstock, NY. After days of solitude and a long hike through the snow, Sasta returned to the cabin and was inspired by all of the sounds that the wood burning stove was making. Armed with only an Elektron Digitakt, and a Zoom H4N portable recorder, he began recording the sounds of the wood stove and loading them into his digitakt sampler instrument.

Excluding the kick drum and bass in Slow Flame, every sound is derived from a recording of the wood burning stove. The fire crackling, door hinges squeaking, the fire poker scraping the galvanized tin bucket, clacking sticks of wood, the ringing tone of the spring-like handle when struck with a stick. Another interesting part of this production is that it is composed entirely unquantized and off-grid, which gives the groove a uniquely loose feel. It is arranged using loops, and every sound heard in each loop is played by hand, not programmed. The entirety of the track was produced solely with a Digitakt, and that limitation became the key that unlocked this new soundscape for Sasta.
