THE FEARLESS FOUR: DLB, Mike C, Peso, Tito, Krazy Eddie, Master OC, from Harlem NYC formed in 1979, the 6 man group had the look, sound and talent to quickly become one of hip hop's dopest crews! In 1982 their second single "Rockin' It" became the #1 song on 3 major NYC radio stations for months on end, forcing one radio D.J. to take it upon "HIMSELF" to retire the song form the #1 spot at his station. HIT SINGLES: "Problems Of The World" "Rockin' It" "F-4000"
REMEMBERING THE FAT BOYS: Darren "Buff Love" Robinson-The Human Beat Box, Mark "Prince Markie Dee" Morales, Damon "Kool Rock-Ski" Wimbley, AKA The Disco 3, was the most popular group in hip hop in its golden era 1981-1988. The 3 B-Boys from Brooklyn New York were friends since the early 70's and began their careers as a rap group in 1982, known as the Disco 3. After winning a talent contest and record deal in 1983, the guys officially changed their name to "The Fat Boys" in 1984.
DYNASTY: Kevin Spencer, Nidra Beard, William Shelby, Leon Sylvers III, Linda Carriere. debuted in 1979 with their first album "Your Piece Of The Rock" and the single "I Don't Want to be a Freak" that reached #20 on the UK singles chart. And again in 1980 a single from their 2nd album called "I've Just Begun To Love You" hit #6 on the U.S. R&B Chart, and #87 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart., other hits "Here I Am, reached #40 on R&B chart and "Love In The Fast Lane" #39 on the R&B chart in 1981.
MEL & KIM: Melanie Susan Appleby, Kim Lorraine Appleby. the Appleby sisters, started their music careers in 1985 in their native Britain and by 1986 had a hit record titled "Showing Out (Get Fresh At The Weekend)" reaching #3 on the British Pop Charts, and #78 on the U.S. Hot 100 Chart! Their 2nd single "Respectable" hit #1 on the British Chart and #1 on the U.S. Dance Chart. Other Hits "F.L.M." "That's The Way It Is". Mel Passed in 1990 at age 23. R.I.P. Mel Appleby.
JOHNNY GILL Jr. Singer / Songwriter, started his professional career in 1982 at age 16 and in '83 debuted his the 1st self titled album "Johnny Gill" that spawned 1 minor hit single "Super Love" reaching #29 on the R&B Charts. and in 1984 teaming up with friend Stacy Lattisaw with the album and hit single "Perfect Combination" reaching #75 on Bilboard Hot 100 Chart . Joining New Edition in 1988, and a very successful solo career in the 90's Gill is still performing today as part N.E.
KENNY LATTIMORE Singer / Songwriter started his Career in 1988 as lead singer of the R&B group "MANIQUIN" that released their first and only self titled CD and the single "I Wanna Ride" in 1989! Lattimore left the group to begin a solo career, and reappearing in 1996 with his self titled CD and the now classic wedding hit single "For You" which reached #33 on Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1997. His latest cd "Vulnerable" was released on 10 / 13 / 2017.
BRIAN McKNIGHT, started his professional career in 1988! The younger brother to music group "Take 6" member Claude McKnight III, Brian got his own record deal with Mercury Records at the age of 19. And in 1992 released his first studio album the self titled cd reached #58 on the billboard 200 chart with the it single "One Last Cry" that hit #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in '93. But it was his 3rd cd "Anytime" selling over 2 million copies that made him a star. McKnight released 13 cd's .
ODYSSEY: Louise Lopez, Tony Reynolds, Lillian Lopez Jackson, formed in 1977 in New York City! The Lopez sisters were born in Connecticut, Reynolds in the Philippines had their first hit record later that year in '77 with a re-recorded version of "Native New Yorker" originally recorded by Frankie Valli earlier that same year! The song was a hit for the sisters, reaching #36 on U.S. Hot 100 chart, #16 on the R&B / Dance Charts and #5 on the UK Chart, where they had 5 top ten singles
THE BAY CITY ROLLERS: Alan Longmuir, Gordon N. Clark, Stuart J. Wood, Derek Longmuir, Eric Faulkner. Formed in 1966 in their Native Scotland in the next few years they would be joined by future Pilot Members David Paton and Billy Lyall as the most poplar grouping of this many member band! and by 1972 had a string of minor and big hit records but it wasnt until a re-release single titled "Saturday Night" hit the U.S. Chart at #1 in 1976 that made the group the biggest Teen Idols in the world.
THE ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA (ELO): Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood, Bev Bevan, Richard Tandy, Bill Hunt, Mike Edwards, Wilfred Gibson. formed in 1970 in their native Birmingham, England by their 2nd album in 1973 and the hit single "Rollover Beethoven" reached the U.S. Chart at #42. Since then they have had 40 U.S. Charting singles and sold over 50 million albums.
PILOT: David Paton, Ian Bairnson, Billy Lyall, Stuart Tosh, formed in 1973 in their native Edinburgh, Scotland and by 1974 had their first hit single "Magic" from their debut album "From The Album Of The Same Name". Paton one of the original members of "The Bay City Rollers" wrote the song that reached the #5 spot in the U.S. Hot 100 chart! Their 2nd hit "January" reached #87 on the U.S. Hot 100 chart. William "Billy" Lyall, also an ex member of " The Bay City Rollers" passed away in 1989.
A-HA: Magne Furuholmen, Morten Harket, Paul Waaktaar-Savoy formed in 1982 in their native Norway! The synth-pop band hit it big in 1985 with their debut album "Hunting High And Low" and the 3rd time re-recorded single "Take On Me" that landed at #1 on the Billboard top 100 chart, and stayed for 6 months ending at #10. selling more then 10 million copies,"Take On Me" was such a big hit it crossed over to the R&B Charts. A-Ha was 1 of the few white groups to perform on Soul Train.
ENGLAND DAN & JOHN FORD COLEY: Danny Wayland Seals, John Edward Colley, formed in 1969 in Dallas, Texas! And later that year had a minor hit single called " The Smell Of Incense" touring and recording it wasn't until 1976 and the hit single "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" reaching #2 on the pop chart and #1 on the adult Contemporary chart that the duo became on of the biggest names through 1976 to 1980 with 6 Top 40 singles, 11 albums and 11 #1 hit country singles.
BREAD: Mike Botts, Robb Royer, David Gates, Jimmy Griffen, was formed in 1968 in Los Angeles, California. They placed 13 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart between 1970 and 1977. The band consisted of David Gates, Jimmy Griffin, Robb Royer and Jim Gordon. Mike Botts became their permanent drummer when he joined in the summer of 1969, and Larry Knechtel replaced Royer in 1971.
LISA LISA & CULT JAM: Mike Hughes, Lisa Velez, Alex "Spanador" Moseley, formed in 1984 In New York City, when they cut the single "I Wonder If I Take You Home" that first became a big hit in U.K. before it hit the charts in the U.S. by their 2nd album titled "Spanish Fly" 1987, the group had mega success and both albums filled the R&B / Dance charts with hits. HIT SINGLES: Head To Toe", "All Cried Out", "Lost In Emotion" the group recorded 4 albums together with Lisa recording 2 solo cd's
