Albina on Instagram: "🏥 Did your nurse in a hospital teach you how to swaddle your newborn? 👶🏻 Nurses recommend swaddling with arms bend and facing up on the chest, because babies born with hypertonus and their usual state is keeping legs and arms bend to the core. I am curious to know how different states promotes swaddling ❓#swaddle #swaddling #swaddleblanket #swaddle4swaddle #swaddles #swaddleme #swaddlebaby #swaddlewrap #swaddleburritobaby #twins#twinbaby#identicaltwins #identicaltwingirls #swaddelini #pregnancy#multiplepregnancy #twinpregnancy #howtoswaddle #пеленать #двойня #twinbloggers #twinmom#sleepbaby #sleepbabysleep #sids #preventsids #hipdislocation #swadle #cutebaby#twinbaby#diditwins"

The “5 S’s” is a swaddling technique developed by Dr. Harvey Karp to soothe and calm babies. It mimics the conditions in the womb and consists of five steps: 1. **Swaddling:** Wrap the baby snugly in a blanket to provide a sense of security and warmth, which helps to prevent spontaneous movements that can startle them. 2. **Side or Stomach Position:** Hold the baby on their side or stomach to help them feel more secure. This position can often be more calming than laying them on their back. 3. **Shushing:** Create a “shushing” sound near the baby’s ear. This sound mimics the continuous whooshing sound made by blood flowing through arteries near the womb and works as a white noise to soothe the baby. 4. **Swinging:** Gently rock or swing the baby, which provides a motion similar to what they experienced in the womb. 5. **Sucking:** Let the baby suck on something, such as a pacifier. Sucking has a soothing effect and helps calm the baby. These techniques, when combined, can effectively help calm and comfort a crying or fussy baby. But just because they’ve woken don’t assume they don’t need more sleep! This is often just the end of their sleep cycle, and they’d love more sleep but can’t quite get into the next sleep cycle on their own yet. If you’re able to settle them back to sleep in their bassinet, they start to learn that their bassinet is a ‘place for sleep’ and can make future settles easier and easier. As long as you have the timing right, with some practice they’ll start connecting their sleep cycles and taking longer naps in their bassinet again. 👉 Have a little one under 3 months?
