Amanirenas - a Kandake (warrior queen) of kush, Ameniras challenged the Romans who took over Egypt after the death of Cleopatra VII. She reigned from about 40 BCE to 10 BCE. She is one of the most famous kandakes, because of her role leading Kushite armies against the Romans from in a war that lasted five years, from 27 BCE to 22 BCE. She succeeded in negotiating a peace treaty on favourable terms. Amanirenas was described as brave, and blind in one eye.
Murray, Pauli
Pauli Murray, civil rights lawyer and Episcopal priest, was born in 1910. She became the first African American person to earn a doctorate at Yale Law School in 1965. Murray also co-founded the National Organization for Women. In 1977, Murray made history again when she became ordained as an Episcopal priest.

My Grandma took me to a brunch at MSU to meet her when I was 10. I found the picture of us last night :) Carole Anne-Marie Gist was the first African American woman to win the Miss USA title. Gist first won the title of Miss Michigan USA and went on to win the Miss USA crown on March 2, 1990 in Wichita, Kansas.
