I started writing Gasoline around the run up to the 2020 U.S election. I don't often post about it, but I'm pretty fiercely political, and I wanted to see if I could write an incredibly angry song, but kind of cover it up with this goofy, Seussian exterior. I wrote up til the end of the first chorus, and then gave up, not seeing how the song could possibly continue from there. When we were recording this, Brennan started goofing off and doing a New Orleans-y thing on the keys, and I loved it so much that it became the start of the second verse. Audrey came in and wrote these horn charts after hearing the song maybe two times (???) and absolutely nailed it.
