lyrics

once there was a road toward
the corner of my open eye
you found the way without a light

and ploughing on beyond an autumn
all but shed and left behind
a plea upon my open mind
please don’t be so kind
i have only come to draw the blinds

and, as in drawing, shadows climbed
the walls that you had painted white
i urged you not to close your eyes

then un-gloved un-shy
wrapped my hand around a cactus’ spines
and though glochidia
burrow still beneath the skin of my palm
none remain above to claim
that i had held it at all
