Another amazing collection of songs from this cool band. This might be their most atmospheric album yet, with contrasting moods of rousing sea shanties and haunting love ballads, with lashings of spooky supernatural imagery. Cohen’s vocals ring out Luke-Kelly-style on ‘Claudy Banks’ and ‘Jack the Sailor’, while George gives us moments of tearful, tender beauty in the opening song and ‘The Mermaid’. I love these guys. I hope they keep giving us proof of the narrative power in British folk songs.
