Help is one long press away.
Security4Her texts your trusted people your live location, records what's happening and calls for help, from your phone or your watch. It's free, with no subscription.
Android 8 or newer. Not on the Play Store yet, so it installs from this page.
Security4Her runs on Android phones and Wear OS watches. There's no iPhone version yet, so open this page on an Android phone to install it.
Point your Android phone's camera at the code to open this page there, then tap Download.
Chrome shows this for every app that isn't from the Play Store.
Version 140
Your phone and personal data are more vulnerable to attack by unknown apps. You can turn this back off after installing.
Do you want to install this app?
Installing…
App installed.
Hold for 2 seconds to alert your contacts
Install in five steps
About a minute-
Tap Download. Chrome will warn that the file might be harmful; it says that about every app from outside the Play Store. Tap Download anyway.
-
When the download finishes, tap Open on the notification. Missed it? Open the Files app, go to Downloads and tap Security4Her-phone.apk.
-
Android asks this once. Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then press back. If you've installed an app this way before, you won't see it.
-
Tap Install and wait a few seconds. If Play Protect asks about an unknown developer, tap More details, then Install anyway.
-
Open Security4Her, create your account and verify once with DigiLocker. It's for women only.
You're set up.
Add two or three trusted contacts, then try an SOS with Test Mode on. Texts and calls go to a test number you choose instead of the police.
SOS on your wrist.
Press and hold on your Wear OS watch to raise the alarm, even when your phone is deep in a bag. The watch records audio from your wrist and sends it to your phone as evidence.
Wear OS 3 or newer. Watches can't install from a browser, so your phone installs it for you over Wi-Fi. No computer needed, and after that the watch updates itself.
Install from your phone
About three minutes-
The phone app installs the watch app for you. If Security4Her isn't on your phone yet, install it first, then come back here.
-
On the watch, open Settings, then System, then About. Tap Build number seven times until it says you're a developer. On some watches it's under About, then Versions.
-
Go back to Settings and open Developer options. Turn on ADB debugging and Debug over Wi-Fi, then open Wireless debugging. Keep the watch and phone on the same Wi-Fi.
-
On your phone open Security4Her, then Me, then Install or update the watch app. On the watch tap Pair new device. The phone finds the watch by itself: type the six-digit code the watch shows and installing starts on its own.
Prefer a computer? Install with adb
Get Android platform tools and the watch APK. Type what the watch's Pair new device screen shows and run the command:
Then type the port under IP address & Port on the Wireless debugging screen and run both commands:
adb install Security4Her-watch.apk -
The phone downloads the watch app, checks its fingerprint and installs it on the watch. It takes about a minute; keep the watch awake until the phone shows four ticks. After this the watch updates itself, silently.
-
Open the phone app first, then Security4Her on the watch. They find each other on their own, and the phone shows Watch linked. You can turn wireless debugging off again: from now on the watch installs its own updates.
Your watch is ready.
Try it with Test Mode on in the phone app: press and hold SOS on the watch and see the alert arrive on your phone.
What you're installing
Everything works without a subscription. Maps and routing use OpenStreetMap, so nothing is behind a paywall, and both apps keep themselves up to date.
Hold the button, or trigger it from your wrist. A countdown lets you cancel a mistake.
Your contacts get a text with a link to a map that follows you every 20 seconds.
Pick where you're going. If you're late or stop moving and don't check in, your contacts are alerted.
See safe places, hospitals and police nearby, and red zones marked by women or by repeated SOS alerts.
Phone in a pocket or bag? Knock on it three times. It wakes over the lock screen and counts down, even with the screen off.
Say "HELP HELP HELP" and the watch starts the SOS countdown. It's recognised on the watch itself; nothing is recorded or sent.
Your phone rings with a real-looking call from Mom or anyone you choose, so you can step away. Answer it and a voice talks to you.
Audio and video start with the SOS, fingerprinted so any edit shows. Your watch records audio too.
Accounts are verified through DigiLocker before joining.
Stuck somewhere?
Most install problems are one of these. The install steps remember where you were, so you can pick up where you left off.
Phone
Chrome says the file might be harmful
Chrome shows that warning for every app that doesn't come from the Play Store. Tap Download anyway. To check it's the real file, compare its SHA-256 fingerprint with the one at the bottom of this page.
Nothing happens when I tap the file
Android needs permission for Chrome (or your Files app) to install apps. Open Settings, search for "Install unknown apps", pick the app you're opening the file from and turn on Allow from this source.
It says "App not installed"
An older copy of Security4Her is probably still on the phone. Uninstall it, then open the file again. Also check you have about 80 MB free.
It says "App was denied access" for SMS
Android 15 does this for every app installed from a download. The app fixes it in one tap: on Home tap Fix, then Fix texting, and tap Update when Android asks. Security4Her reinstalls itself the way an app store would, keeping everything. Open it again and tap Allow. Until then, an SOS still works: it opens Messages with your text and contacts filled in, so it's one tap to send.
Pressing the power button 3 times opens the phone's own SOS or the camera
Press slowly, about one press a second. Your phone's own Emergency SOS and the double-press camera only count fast presses, so a calm rhythm sets off only Security4Her. If the phone's SOS still opens, turn it off from Me, then Pocket SOS in the app. To check your phone, tap Test it there. Prefer knocking? Choose Knock ×3 instead.
Why does it ask for so many permissions?
Location to share where you are, SMS and phone to reach your contacts without internet, microphone and camera to record evidence during an SOS, and notifications to show the alert. Nothing is recorded or shared unless an SOS or Safe Journey is running.
Watch
adb says "command not found"
Run the commands from inside the platform tools folder. On Windows use .\adb in PowerShell; on Mac or Linux use ./adb.
The phone can't find my watch
Keep the watch's Pair new device screen open while the phone looks; the code changes every time you open it. The watch and phone must be on the same Wi-Fi, and some guest or office networks block this. Still stuck? Tap Watch not found? Enter its address in the phone app and type the IP address and ports the watch shows.
How does the watch get updates?
After the first install from your phone, the watch checks for new versions by itself and asks you once on the watch before updating. If an update ever can't install, open the phone app, then Me, then Install or update the watch app.
The phone never shows Watch linked
The watch must be paired with the phone in the Wear OS or Galaxy Wearable app first. Open the Security4Her phone app, then the watch app, and give it a few seconds.
Trying it out
Can I try an SOS without alerting anyone?
Yes. Turn on Test Mode in Settings. Texts and the automatic call go to a test number you choose, and Safe Journey timers are shortened so you can see an alert in a minute.
