Light Lies Awake is an album of suspension, a willful surrender to art as a blank slate where anything is possible. The explorations found here are deeply sincere and come from two composers who have long lived next to their craft and philosophical outlook. This album is testament to the idea that in music, there is no idea, only fascination. There is only a collapse into a state of possibility. In that spirit, Light Lies Awake is an ever-expanding form that lurks, that is immanent, yet unwilling to emerge. Successful compositions know where to find a precipice. They know how to take the listener to the edge, to peer over, and almost fall. We endeavor through playful mirages of texture and harmony, to expose emotional responses not readily gleaned, in which surfaces weave and modulate so their source may not easily be uncovered. Music is the closest mirror we have to the metaphorical and abstract conditions that make up life. We hope that here, you may find new layers of reflection, new states of being that carry you to that edge… and almost fall.
