The Digital Magazine Archive provides members with online access to a significant historical resource. Spanning the period from 1892 to 2016, this archive contains a wealth of information about the National Society's rich heritage, from the earliest years to the 21st century. The Digital Magazine Archive was made possible by the President General's Project, which funded the installation of fiber optic cable to increase the National Society's Internet bandwidth.
The National Society's official magazine has assumed a number of titles through the years. Despite its frequent name changes, its mission has remained much the same: to keep members informed of the organization's plans and programs and to share interesting articles related to the NSDAR founding tenets of historic preservation, education and patriotism. Since 2001, these functions have been served by two separate companion publications: American Spirit magazine and Daughters newsletter.
The Digital Magazine Archive was created by scanning magazines obtained from a variety of sources, including microfilm, old bound editions and original issues. Individual issues are posted as downloadable PDFs, which were optimized with readability and file size in mind. To navigate to a particular issue, click the corresponding decade, then the corresponding year, and finally the corresponding month or months. Annual tables of contents, also in PDF format, are available for many years, but not all years. Both the magazine issues and the tables of contents are searchable, but currently there is no master index.
The July/August 2021 issues of American Spirit magazine and its companion Daughters newsletter were mailed to all DAR members. You can access these issues by clicking these links.
