We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Vaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since college I’ve leaned towards things of a creative endeavor. While studying business I took fashion design classes at a local community college and that garnered my love for creativity and set me down the path I’m on today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being creative has come in more than one form for me and all have possessed challenges along the way. Starting my own clothing brand was a difficult task, building a brand from the ground up required many hours and a lot of patience. It wasn’t easy, I learned as I went, but was always ready to tackle the challenge head on. It taught me about operational structures, stress and people management. I learned from my mistakes and carried them on the world of food creation, where my focus was innovating and offering a healthy alternative to the current dining landscape at the time. This has in turn helped me as I push forward in writing, understanding efficient ways to work and hone my skills. I feel with every interest I become passionate about, another chapter of my story starts in a book that may never end, as long as I breath life into my lungs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A place I recommend to anyone that visits Southern California is the Disneyland resort. At face value, people will look at it like just a theme park for families, but it is so much more. When you break down what goes into it, it’s one of the most interesting, artistic and efficiently run places on Earth. When you sit down and think about the inner workings of a place of that magnitude, it really is something spectacular. From the details, to the artistry involved in it all, it is hands down one of the greatest spectacles the world has ever known.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As my life unfolds, my parents have been there every step of the way to encourage me to keep pressing forward, no matter the obstacles in my way. From the world of fashion design, to becoming a restauranteur, and continually pursuing a career in screenwriting, they have always been there supporting me, offering words of advice.
