Chikankari Embroidery class 3, Bakya stitch in 2 ways

Today we will learn how to do bakya stitch in chikankari Embroidery.  This is a main stitch in chikankari.  It is also known as shadow stitch.  It creates a beautiful shadow effect on the front side of the fabric in the colour of the thread you are working on.

This is the design I have worked for practising bakya stitch.

Bakya stitch can be done in two ways.  From the front of the fabric and it can also be done from the back of the fabric.  When we work from the front side we use double back stitch and when working for the back side we use herringbone stitch.  Both creates a shadow effect in the front side of the fabric with an outline of the shape we worked.

Also, herringbone stitch is also used to work leaves and petals of the flowers if we want a filled design in the front side.  It is also used for stems.  Here I have used herringbone stitch for leaves and Pashni stitch for stems.

Wall hanging Verse 2

>

 Hi all

Hope all are doing great.  Today I am happy to with you a new embroidered wall hanging verse.  In the beginning of this year I have posted another verse.  You can have a look at it here.

Stitches used:
Verse - Back stitch
Stem -  Stem stitch
Flowers - French knots
Leaves - Lazy Daisy

I have attached two designs which I have sampled last year along with the verse.  The first is stem stitch. The second one is portuguese stem stitch.

On the joined edges I have stitched a line of feather stitch and then added french knots to it.   I have sandwiched the embroidered piece with a layer of cardstock at the bottom, then a thin sponge sheet, then the fabric, then the transparent sheet. Used fabric glue to stick the four sides of each layer.  Then to make a simple frame I have attached a glue sticker like stone and pearl border on all four sides.  The frame is ready.

I have misplaced the pattern file for this design.  I will update it soon.   In my next post I will come up with a small cross stitch finish.  Till then, have a happy time with needle and thread.

Embroidery design - Double daisy & Rosette Stitch

 Hi all

I am happy to share a new embroidery design using double daisy and rosette stitch.  In this design I have used more than one stitch.  For the big flower I have used lazy daisy stitch one over the other.  In the in between gap of the flower petals, pistil stitch has been done to cover the surface of the design.  In the center, I have added french knots of two colors.

All the three small flowers are worked in rosette stitch.  The stitch itself forms a beautiful petal.  It is apt for leaves also.  Then added some french knots over the stem and the stem is stitched using stem stitch, my most favorite one for the stems.  Now over to the stitched sample.

PATTERN FOR THE DESIGN

Stitches used:
--------------
Big flower         - Lazy daisy stitch (two layers)
Small flowers     - Rosette stitch
Centre of flower - French Knots
Stem                - Stem stitch
Leaves              - Rosette stitch

 Threads used(Anchor Embroidery threads)

Small flower -330 (4 strands)
French knots - 298, 330(4 strands)

Ring Knot Kurti

Hello all

I am back again with an embroidered neck for a kurti.  The same design I have done with french knots for me.  But this time I have used ring knots for my co sister and modified the design a little.  Material is the same.  Ring knots is a beautiful stitch which is widely used in aari embroidery for flowers.  It is used as a filling stitch.  I have learned this knot through you tube tutorials.  Many videos are available for the same in you tube.

This is the motif  in the sleeves.

I have used 6 strands of anchor embroidery threads for the flowers  and stitched french knots for the flower centers.  Leaves are stitched using leaf stitch which is my all time favourite and the stems in stem stitch.  First I tried the stems using portuguese stem stitch.  But it was not that much appealing.  So I decided to do stem stitch for stems.  Overall I like the outcome.  What about you?  Have you tried ring knots.  It is a bit difficult first.  But by practice it will come out perfect.  Tried it out.  I will be posting the design in future and a method to trace design for the neck.

Now I am doing some embroidery samples and concentrating more on my mega cross stitch project.  I will be finishing another page soon.  So I will come up with that update and a embroidery sample flower.  Till then, Have a happy time with needle n thread.
