I think this has been in my wishlist more than once. Don't know how I let it slide by like that. Smooth as synthy silk prog metal with all the bleeps, sweeps and creeps. Every song on this rules! Jon M
With its debut album, this young band from Vienna follows the footsteps of honorable Austrian prog masters like "Matter Of Taste". The music on this concept album is not of the kind I'd call particularly innovative - it travels pretty much on well known roads paved by many others long ago. However, these youngsters do it in a highly pleasant way, skillfully avoiding the pitfalls of pseudo-progressive phrase rehashing most of the time - certainly more successfully so than several of their experienced grand paragons of prog. If I comprehend the gist of the lyrics right, I’d say there’s probably a lot of folks who’d relate to them now, during the current pandemic, pondering life/death while isolating.
I still need to listen to a lot of Phideaux’s catalogue, but my intuition tells me this one will be near the top of my favourite Phideaux albums list when I’m done, if not at the apex. This is a great conceptual prog rock album. I’m late to the party, but better late than never! 8.5+/10. Alrihkh
So what kind of music is this? "Symphonic Prog Folk" maybe...?! Difficult to put this into a drawer. Anyway, it's among the best things I've found in the last few years. The songs are of stunning beauty, with rich keyboard and guitar arrangements, plus flute, violin, and classical brass and woodwind. And let's not forget the most appealing female vocals. Just pure pleasure without rough edges. The album is issued on an italian label, and, in fact, if there weren't the occasional greek lyrics, this band might be erroneously considered an italian prog band... which is a big compliment!
