Yoko Shimada

Yōko Shimada (島田 陽子, Shimada Yōko, 17 May 1953 – 25 July 2022) was a Japanese actress. She was best known for being in Western movies. Her best known role was as Mariko in the 1980 miniseries Shōgun. For this role, she won a Golden Globe Award in 1980. She was born in Kumamoto, Japan. Her career began in 1970. She also appeared in the 1995 movie The Hunted.

Shimada died on 25 July 2022 at a hospital in Tokyo, Japan from colorectal cancer, aged 69.[1]
