Working backwards from 93696, it has been hard to find a place for previous releases as that album feels like a complete realisation of a vision that previous works only aspire to (this is improving with distance). But after listening to this a few times and struggling, it all came together once I approached it as a contemporary classical record rather than a metal one. Here it has context. Its references make sense. And transcendentalism is achieved.

Grid of Points is more brighter compared to its previous sister album Ruins, yet the album still feels very dark, possibly caused by Liz’s inhuman ability to make the calming sound disturbingly beautiful. Every moment on here, yes that’s including that ending to Breathing, makes me feel so emotional in different ways, but Driving specifically has such a punch to it like no other.
