As part of National Volunteer Month, we’re recognizing a number of dedicated SigEp volunteers who give their time to support our chapters and mentor our undergraduate brothers. We’re grateful for the commitment of each of SigEp’s more than 3,000 volunteers.

Mitch Christ serves as AVC Treasurer for the Colorado Gamma AVC at Colorado State, where he also manages the chapter’s facility. Drawing on his professional background in construction management, he played a major role in a large renovation of Colorado Gamma’s chapter home. Brother Christ is a recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award. 

Why do you volunteer? 

I look back on my years in college (in the 1970’s) and am grateful to have had that wonderful fraternity brotherhood experience. By volunteering my time on the SigEp AVC board I am able to give back to the organization that gave so much to me and I hope that I can help to provide the opportunity for a similar positive experience to the new generation of SigEps at Colorado State University. In 2012, with my college degree and career in industrial construction management, I was able to offer some assistance as a team member with Colorado Gamma AVC’s efforts to do a major renovation our fraternity house in Fort Collins, Colorado which was completed in 2016. Unfortunately the Chapter lost its charter in 2013, and was off campus for four years. However, the house renovation project went forward even without an active chapter. Since the renovation, I have stayed involved with the AVC board as director of facilities and treasurer to help with interim leasing of the house and managing the property finances while we recolonize the Chapter and get ready to reach our goal to re-occupy our fraternity house.

How has serving as a SigEp volunteer impacted your life? 

I am blessed to be in a position in my life to give back to the fraternity. I retired in 2014 to manage some health issues. This enabled me to have the time to be intimately involved in the design, engineering, and construction of the $3 million fraternity house renovation which included gutting the the 3-story Greek revival brick house to the bare studs and redoing all plumbing, HVAC, electrical and finishes. Being so involved with the Colorado Gamma AVC was a great transition for me when leaving the construction management company I founded after twenty years to begin retirement and manage my health. I am grateful that I’ve had this opportunity to work closely with my committed alumni brothers on the AVC team and contribute to my college fraternity.
