10 Trendy Sunglasses for Women Over 50

By Sandra Roussy June 13, 2024 Beauty

Protecting our eyes from harmful UV rays is essential. Looking stylish is a choice. I love sunglasses and because I live in a tropical climate, I own several pairs. I have trendy sunglasses when dressing up for an event, I have casual ones I use when going out to lunch with the girls, and I have sporty polarized sunglasses for times when I go driving, boating, and hiking.

Recently, while clearing out boxes from the family home, I came across a pair of sunglasses that an elderly aunt gave me ages ago. They are from the ‘70s with large, square, transparent frames and gold trims. I was ecstatic to find them again! It reminded me how trends come and go – and come again. They are now back in my sunglasses’ rotation.

How to Choose Trendy Sunglasses

Lifestyle

Choose sunglasses that fit your lifestyle, personality, and activities.

Face Shape

By now, you probably know what shape of sunglasses fits your face shape. If you’re not sure, ask friends to honestly tell you which shapes fit you best.

Budget

You can purchase very inexpensive sunglasses at drugstores, gas stations, and on Amazon. Look for the sticker on the lens that says 100% UV protection or 400UV.

You can also spend several hundred dollars on designer boutique sunglasses. I like to look for promotions or sales and buy the best protection I can for my eyes. Spending a little more is worth it if you take good care of your sunglasses by keeping them in their cases when not worn.

Trendy and Stylish Sunglasses for Older Women

First, let me start by saying that your sunglasses should reflect your personality and not your age. There are no specific rules. I’ve put together a list that I think covers trends but also different personal styles and tastes.

We are seeing a variety of trends in sunglasses; from small oval shapes to oversized square shapes, from cat eye to athletic. Also, color is very trendy at the moment – transparent colored frames and tinted lenses alike.
