Bio
We are NLnet foundation. We support organisations and people who contribute to an open internet for all. If you are working on a project that helps fix the internet through open hardware, open software, open standards, open science and open data, we invite you to apply for a grant.
We're lead of the @NGIZero coalition which runs several programmes to fund those who are building free and open source technologies for the Next Generation Internet.
After an historical contribution to the early internet in Europe in the 1980's, we've been financially supporting the open internet since 1997.
We like hex stickers.

Commons Caretakers has a job opening for a coordinator for the NGI0 support services. Grantees of NGI0 funds can request a wide range of services, from technical writing to UX advice. The coordinator, well, coordinates between the support providers and the grantees.
You'll be working closely together with NLnet's Technology Assessors to support project teams.
Location is hybrid: partly remote and partly in-office in the Netherlands.

Flock XR is a visual creativity & coding tool that allows young people to create 3D experiences in a web browser.
Catherine Elliott, of the Flock XR project wanted to find out how it can be used to engage learners with social emotional and mental health needs. She engaged a group of 12-14 year olds who were not only asked to build a 3D project but also to act as beta testers, a task they quite enjoyed.
You can read Catherine's blog the post here:
Just a reminder that today we'll host our first open office hour. Everyone welcome at 16.00 CEST in our Matrix room.

We spotted Tiliqua in the wild at Superbooth 2025 at the Synthlab Berlin stand! So now we have a picture :).
Tiliqua by @apfelaudio is an open-hardware Digital Sound Processing (DSP) library and reference hardware design which aims to make FPGA-based audio and video synthesis accessible for musicians and engineers.
Coincidentally: They're now running a crowdsource campaign where you can get your own Teliqua (and more)

With the NGI Mobifree Pilot we work on more ethical mobile software. Consortium partner @waag is looking for app developers who'd like to volunteer as testers.
You'll be testing Murena Fairphone (on loan), F-Droid & Repomaker. There will be 2 in-person meetings and weekly requests for feedback. Because of the in-person meetings it's aimed at people who live in the Netherlands.
Registration is open till April 10. For more info: https://waag.org/en/article/testers-wanted-open-source-smartphone-software/
NGI Zero partner CCBV is looking for a freelance technical writer with cryptographic expertise. You'll be helping out free and open source projects in the cryptographic space with their technical writing needs. This kind of practical support is part of the NGI0 funding programs.
It's a part-time, freelance role with the amount of work depending on the number of requests for support. Check CCBV for more info and contact details for questions.

The Flow Battery Research Collective (FBRC) are building an open source battery. Technology writer Koen Vervloesem did a nice write-up about their #FOSDEM talk in the Energy devroom. FBRC works on redox flow batteries which are better suited for long-term, stationary storage and less hazardous than Li-ion batteries. FBRC plan to democratize flow battery technology by developing an open source flow battery, starting with a development kit.
We are having some trouble with our instance and can't respond to any @mentions :'(. Apologies for the impoliteness. We're working on it.
