Passion ~ Scraps of Elegance May Kit "Mix'd Media

Hello, everyone!

I'm here with you today sharing another Design Team layout using the May "Mix'd Media" Kit from Scraps of Elegance Kit Club. The Main Kit papers center around Blue Fern Studios Happy Accident papers and Prima Marketing Flowers plus loads of other, fun mixed media goodies to get your creative juices flowing.

This little fella in my photo was actually at my house on Father's Day although the picture itself was taken last year. I'm telling you, this boy just makes my heart want to burst from joy! He is the most precious  combination of sweet, obedient, funny and all-boy. And yes, I know I'm prejudiced, haha! I wish he lived closer.

"Passion"

Anyway, I've used the Blue Fern Happy Accident Quirk paper as my background. After applying clear gesso using the Ranger Craft Squeegee, I used the KaiserCraft Foliage Stencil and DecoArt Sand Paste all from the Main Kit. I emphasized those areas a bit with some mist that matches with some gold tones in the paper. When that was dry, I stamped around my focal area with the Blue Halftone stamp from the Elements add-on. BTW, where has that Craft Squeegee been all my life??? It is even better than using a credit card when applying your gessoes. Love it!

I painted the Arrow Word as well as as the circle frame chipboard (from my stash, Creative Embellishments Out of this World Frame) with the Prima Rust Paint from the May Scraps of Darkness Creativity add-on found HERE.  I also added a few none-pink flowers from the Flower add-on and tucked in a few of the ephemera from the Elements add-ons .. love, love the butterflies!

You can note here that before mounting the chipboard, I tossed some black thread from my stash underneath it to mimic the upper corner design. Boy pages are hard for me, so I figured texture and insects would help me overcome! Those and a little paint!

This is just a little closer-in photo to show the stencil texture and some of the stamping.

And this is all across the bottom two thirds of the page. I finished with some white gesso and black mist splatters.

Here is a photo  of the sold-out May Kit:

If you've been hanging around here any length of time, you know that Melinda carries the newest products. I always look forward to getting my Kit and add-ons every month. I'll bet you would too!

See you next time!

Sweet Smile ~ Scraps of Elegance May Kit

Hello, Scraps of Darkness/Elegance fans!

Sandi here with you today sharing my first project with the May 2017 Scraps of Elegance Kit "Mix'd Media Kit" as well as a few of the add-ons. I believe that this kit is already Sold Out, so if you've been wavering on joining the Kit Club, now is the time to get signed up and never miss another great Kit again!

Let's get started!

The Main Kit focuses around Blue Fern Studios Happy Accident paper collection with lots of wonderful embellishments included to round things out! I've also used the Tim Holtz ephemera from the Elements add-on as well as the Slue Fern Studios Halftone stamp and Arrow Words chipboard also included in that add-on.

This layout began as what I call my obligatory "pink" layout for the month, wink, wink! With a multi-colored kit, I always try to highlight a variety of colors. As you can see, my pink layout got peach-y very quickly which is much what I prefer anyway ... but my intentions were good, lol. I've used the Happy Accident Fortuity as my base layer and used Layering cards for my vertical piece and photo mats. As is my normal practice, I began with gesso, stamping, stenciling and some random misting. The mist was painted on and spritzed with water to run. This being a Mix'd Media Kit, I felt the need to showcase that. The Happy Accident papers are also part of Blue Fern Studios Artisan Collection which has fewer distinct vintage images and more of a mixed media art feel to them.

After adding a gessoed Creative Embellishments doily chipboard from my stash to anchor my photos, I began adding my florals which are a combination of the Prima Main Kit flowers as well as the Floral add-ons which are all also by Prima. There are a few random Blue Fern Studios Attic Charm flowers from the Scraps of Darkness online store that I've mixed in.  You can find them Here and HERE. I consider them must-haves!  In this close-up,  you can see part of the Tim Holtz ephemera from the Elements add-on as well as some of the Happy Accident co-ordinating chipboard found in the Main Kit.

The Blue Fern Studios Arrow Words have long been a fave of mine. Here I've layered two of them on a Happy Accident cardstock sticker to create my title.  The chipboard is embossed with Blue Fern's Peacock embossing powder which Melinda carries in the store. You can buy it HERE.  I've tucked in a few of the Prima Metal trinkets and pieces of Blue Fern Happy Accident cardstock stickers. (Both from the Main Kit.)

Another floral cluster in this corner. You can see that I've used pink and peach together and they blend nicely with these papers. The Blue Fern Studios Halftone stamp is actually part of my stash but comes in the Elements add-on. I've used it all over the page to create depth and interest. Of course, I've added some of my usual cheesecloth and art stones.

I love the butterfly ephemera from the Elements add-on. So perfect as a filler on most any project! Some splattered gesso everywhere to blend everything.

Got to take those angle photos, you know!

I love that I ended up with a rich array of color!

I'm off to work on blue ....

"Gangsta Joy" Layout For Marion Smith Designs

Hello, there!
Sandi here with you today sharing a layout … although a different kind for me. I had this funky photo of my daughter, her hubby and friends from a day they were riding their motorcycles and thought it would fun to scrap. Something different from the pretty or vintage that I usually do.  I didn't totally let loose .. I thought a mix of feminine and grunge would be fun!

I've use the Time Keeper Marchant as my base and added Time Keeper Exploratorium and Time Keeper Carnival for layers. I prepped my background with clear gesso, did some mixed media work and began building my layers. I love using lots of layers! At first, I was going for a monotone look but decided the pop of hot pink would really add some zest! You know me, always have to add some color! Lots of fun embellies on this one, too! Especially loved using my chipboard!

Here are some close-ups:

That's it from me today!

New Blue Fern Studios Sketch Challenge for June!

Welcome to June, everyone!
Here it is another new sketch challenge for you over at Blue Fern Studios.
Michele Singh has created this beautiful sketch exclusively for Blue Fern! Isn't it gorgeous?
I had so much fun using it as inspiration for my first official Blue Fern Design Team project!

I've used a combination of Ombre Dreams papers, Shannon's Dream and Julianna's Dream. Using a stencil, molding past and mist, I created a really fun background. A little brighter than I originally had in mind but love the final result.

All my chipboard pieces were treated the same way, white gesso as a base, then chalk ink and a light touch of microbeads.

Here are some close-ups:

I especially love the green Layering Stem!

Blue Fern Studios chipboard used were:
Enjoy the Journey
Jeweled Page Baubles
Layering Stems
Flutter Page Singles

Here are the sketch challenge details:

One lucky winner, selected by a random draw, will receive a prize package of Blue Fern Studios chipboard!
