Comcast
Simulating bad network connections so you can build better systems
Testing distributed systems under hard failures like network partitions and instance termination is critical, but it's also important we test them under less catastrophic conditions because this is what they most often experience. Comcast is a tool designed to simulate common network problems like latency, bandwidth restrictions, and dropped/reordered/corrupted packets. It works by wrapping up some system tools in a portable(ish) way. On BSD-derived systems such as OSX, we use tools like ipfw and pfctl to inject failure. On Linux, we use iptables and tc. Comcast is merely a thin wrapper around these controls. Windows support may be possible with wipfw or even the native network stack, but this has not yet been implemented in Comcast and may be at a later date. On Linux, Comcast supports several options: device, latency, target/default bandwidth, packet loss, protocol, and port number. -

Eclair
A scala implementation of the Lightning Network
Eclair (French for Lightning) is a Scala implementation of the Lightning Network. This software follows the Lightning Network Specifications (BOLTs). Other implementations include c-lightning, lnd, electrum, and rust-lightning. Eclair offers a feature-rich HTTP API that enables application developers to easily integrate. Eclair's JSON API should NOT be accessible from the outside world (similarly to Bitcoin Core API). Eclair requires Bitcoin Core 0.20.1 or 0.21.1. (other versions of Bitcoin Core are not actively tested - use at your own risk). If you are upgrading an existing wallet, you may need to create a new address and send all your funds to that address. Eclair needs a synchronized, segwit-ready, zeromq-enabled, wallet-enabled, non-pruning, tx-indexing Bitcoin Core node. You must configure your Bitcoin node to use bech32 (segwit) addresses. -

fancyss is a project for bypassing the Great Firewall (GFW)
Fancyss is a “scientific Internet access / bypassing censorship” toolkit targeted principally to Asus routers running AsusWRT or Merlin-based firmware. The project provides a plugin suite (with “software center” integration) so that home routers can run proxy or tunneling tools (e.g. V2Ray) to circumvent firewall or censorship (“GFW” in the Chinese context). Because it integrates into the router’s firmware environment, fancyss automates configuration, routing, and firewall rules to minimize manual tinkering. It supports multiple architectures and firmware versions, though some submodules or variants (e.g. “fancyss_hnd”) are optimized for specific chipsets. The project also maintains offline packages for constrained environments and hardware support lists. Many users adopt fancyss to turn relatively cheap consumer routers into censorship-resilient gateways, avoiding separate proxy appliances. -

ingress-nginx is an Ingress controller for Kubernetes using NGINX as a reverse proxy and load balancer. It is built around the Kubernetes Ingress resource, using a ConfigMap to store the NGINX configuration. The goal of this Ingress controller is the assembly of a configuration file (nginx.conf). The main implication of this requirement is the need to reload NGINX after any change in the configuration file. Though it is important to note that we don't reload Nginx on changes that impact only an upstream configuration (i.e Endpoints change when you deploy your app). We use lua-nginx-module to achieve this. Check below to learn more about how it's done. Usually, a Kubernetes Controller utilizes the synchronization loop pattern to check if the desired state in the controller is updated or a change is required. To this purpose, we need to build a model using different objects from the cluster, in particular (in no special order) Ingresses, Services, Endpoints, Secrets, and Configmaps. -
