Open Source File Tagging Software

TagSpaces is a free, no vendor lock-in, open source application for organizing, annotating and managing local files with the help of tags. It features advanced note taking functionalities and some capabilities of to-do apps. The application is available for Windows, Linux, Mac OS and Android. We provide a web clipper extension for Firefox, Edge and Chrome for easy collecting of online content in the form of local files. File and folder management - TagSpaces provides a convenient user interface for browsing, viewing and man files and folders. The application supports two ways for tagging files. The default one embeds the tags directly in the name of the file, the other one uses a so called sidecar files for persisting the tags. The search functionality supports fuzzy functionality and can filter your locations for files and folders containing one or more tags.

Fileytale is a document management application. It has a feature for managing documents from multiple folders into a single project/folder. Fileytale can save only the metadata, saving storage space. It also has a snapshot (experimental) feature that can save versions of your documents. It also has a program (experimental) feature that allows you to create programs to manage your documents. One of its program features is savedoc, which allows you to save documents to another folder. This application has been abandoned, so there is no support for bugs or errors. for linux : .deb for windows : .zip

This is a simple application to bookmark/tag your folder/file. Filesystem will not be affected. You can add tag by directly right clicking the folder/file. For searching, approximate word matching is used. Files/folders will be sorted for required tags and the most matching will come on the top. For tagging websites, right now, you have to copy paste path. Plugin/extension for web-browsers need to be done.
