Sometimes you want to setup switching keyboard layouts using X server -- because there is no DE plugin, or it's broken, or lacks needed functionality. You can easily configure X server to switch keyboard layouts, but I could not find way of keeping layout for each window separately using only X server. Hence this package. Tested under xfce4. -

"Tap" means that a single key is pressed and quickly released, so (1) no other keys are pressed at this time, and (2) period between pressing and releasing is shorter than keyboard repeat delay (usually it is 0.5 s, but it depends on desktop settings). Tapper key feature is using modifier keys for switching keyboard layouts without losing modifier's functionality. Free Windows keyboard driver that extends AltGr to provide comprehensive accented character support (including multi-accented characters), international punctuation, IPA, medieval characters, mathematical and non-mathematical symbols, and more. Designed for UK keyboards and installs as a regular keyboard layout option. I might adapt it for US keyboards if there's enough interest. The driver should be stable (built using MSKLC, which is mature) but classified as beta because it has not yet been tested on a wide variety of systems (please give feedback!) Note that this can't display characters not supported in fonts on your system! Also if you enter an unusual symbol in some programs such as MS Word the font might switch to one which includes that symbol – this isn't anything the driver can control. -

Uosk (formerly Charmappino) is a virtual keyboard that opens any ASCII, ANSI, UTF-8 and UTF-16 text file and converts words (e.g. separated by spaces) into buttons. Clicking one button the text snippet is pasted into any text editor (Notepad, WordPad, MS Office, OpenOffice...). You can edit snippets directly in Uosk, and save them as a new txt file. The snippet can also be copied to clipboard. It's basically a virtual keyboard with ability to set any amount of characters in one button. Uosk comes with some preset keyboard: Arabic, box drawing, Devanagari, emoji, Greek, Hebrew, Hiragana, IPA, Katakana, Russian and Windows-1252. -
