peewee
A small, expressive orm, which supports postgresql, mysql and sqlite
Peewee is a simple and small ORM. It has few (but expressive) concepts, making it easy to learn and intuitive to use. Peewee will automatically infer the database table name from the name of the class. You can override the default name by specifying a table_name attribute in the inner “Meta” class (alongside the database attribute). To learn more about how Peewee generates table names, refer to the Table Names section. There are lots of field types suitable for storing various types of data. Peewee handles converting between pythonic values and those used by the database, so you can use Python types in your code without having to worry. The real strength of our database is in how it allows us to retrieve data through queries. Relational databases are excellent for making ad-hoc queries. Peewee provides a magical helper fn(), which can be used to call any SQL function. -

pomegranate
Fast, flexible and easy to use probabilistic modelling in Python
pomegranate is a library for probabilistic modeling defined by its modular implementation and treatment of all models as the probability distributions they are. The modular implementation allows one to easily drop normal distributions into a mixture model to create a Gaussian mixture model just as easily as dropping a gamma and a Poisson distribution into a mixture model to create a heterogeneous mixture. But that's not all! Because each model is treated as a probability distribution, Bayesian networks can be dropped into a mixture just as easily as a normal distribution, and hidden Markov models can be dropped into Bayes classifiers to make a classifier over sequences. Together, these two design choices enable a flexibility not seen in any other probabilistic modeling package. -

Python is popular, and easy to program in, but it has poor runtime performance. We can fix that by transpiring a subset of the language into a more performant, statically typed language. A second benefit is security. Writing security-sensitive code in a low-level language like C is error-prone and could lead to privilege escalation. Specialized languages such as wuffs exist to address this use case. py2many can be a more general-purpose solution to the problem where you can verify the source via unit tests before you transpile. Swift and Kotlin dominate the mobile app development workflow. However, there is no one solution that works well for lower level libraries where there is desire to share code between platforms. Kotlin Mobile Multiplatform (KMM) is a player in this place, but it hasn't really caught on. py2many provides an alternative. -

A work in progress. Named in honor of 閔齊伋, a 16th-century printer. Intended to be used with Kenyan-lang, the Classical Chinese programming language. Download high-resolution PDFs and split pages into images. Manually lay a grid on top of each page to generate bounding boxes for characters (potentially replaceable by an automatic corner-detection algorithm). Generate a low-poly mask for each character on the grid, and save the thumbnails (using OpenCV). First, red channel is subtracted from the grayscale, in order to clean the annotations printed in red ink. Next, the image is thresholded and fed into the contour-tracing algorithm. A metric is then used to discard shapes that are unlikely to be part of the character in interest. -

The Snorkel project started at Stanford in 2016 with a simple technical bet: that it would increasingly be the training data, not the models, algorithms, or infrastructure, that decided whether a machine learning project succeeded or failed. Given this premise, we set out to explore the radical idea that you could bring mathematical and systems structure to the messy and often entirely manual process of training data creation and management, starting by empowering users to programmatically label, build, and manage training data. Snorkel Flow, an end-to-end machine learning platform for developing and deploying AI applications. Command line tool to modify OS X's accessibility database (TCC.db)
Apple has a utility in /usr/bin named tccutil, but it only supports one command, which is to reset the entire database. It has been like this for many versions of macOS. I wanted a command-line utility that would be able to add, remove, list, and take other actions. This tool needs SIP disabled in order to function. The risk of doing so is up to you. tccutil.py can be installed without any additional software. Depending how you have your $PATH variable setup, you can simply type tccutil (instead of the full path) and it will run this utility instead of Apple's. This utility needs super-user priveleges for most operations. It is important that you either run this as root or use sudo, otherwise it won't work and you will end up with “permission denied” errors. -

virtualenv is a tool to create isolated Python environments. Since Python 3.3, a subset of it has been integrated into the standard library under the venv module. It creates an environment that has its own installation directories, that doesn’t share libraries with other virtualenv environments (and optionally doesn’t access the globally installed libraries either). The basic problem being addressed is one of dependencies and versions, and indirectly permissions. Imagine you have an application that needs version 1 of LibFoo, but another application requires version 2. How can you use both these libraries? If you install everything into your host python (e.g. python3.8) it’s easy to end up in a situation where two packages have conflicting requirements. -
