Compassh is an helper for the popular OpenSSH remote connection software, focused on providing near-VPN service without the complexity and the setup required by a real VPN. Using a VPN software may require an ad-hoc firewall setup, the generation of a key (pair) and the installation of the VPN software on a host that is not under your control. Compassh try to solve as much of this problems with a smart use of OpenSSH.

J2SSH Maverick is the successor to the original J2SSH API and includes a complete and stable implementation of an SSH2 client. Originally built from the ground up by the original author back in 2003, this product has, until now, only been available under a commercial license. With the development and pending release of a third generation SSH API, this legacy API has now been released under the GPLv3 and will continue to be maintained by the core author as a contribution to the open source community.

nps-ssh-askpass does exactly the same job as x11-ssh-askpass. The difference is that nps-ssh-askpass does not require xmkmf, so it is easier to compile on Mac OS X and Cygwin.

Backuso – pronounce like the opera singer ‘Caruso’ – is a software for routine and automated backups of your computer to either a local storage or a remote storage on an SSH server, or both. A local storage is anything accessible in the directory structure of your computer. Most of the time this will be a (large) hard drive, mounted at a convenient location. A remote storage is anything which is accessed on your network via the ssh protocol. This could be a NAS (Network Attached Storage) in your local LAN, or a server share on the internet. Backuso is configured with a simple text file. You can start the backups manually or automatically, e.g. using crontab. Backuso is based on Python 3 and uses the software rsync as its core element. Hence it runs on systems where rsync is available (Linux, FreeBSD, Apple).

Ballast is a tool for balancing user load across SSH servers that supports user-specific policies as well as traditional policies based on metrics such as CPU load. It includes a simple client, a lightweight data server, and a data collection agent.

BASSHFS is similar to the existing SSHFS utility except it is does not require FUSE kernel support. Instead, BASSHFS uses the aliasing and function mechanisms of the bash shell to intercept program invocations and remap those that are supported to its own versions.
