"Zmanda - Solid option. Much more affordable." Posted 2023-08-25
Pros: Much better price than alternatives. Works well for mixed infrastructure. We have several generations of products and many types of servers. Zmanda covers everything. We have a good-sized environment with hundreds of servers and VMs, including some legacy boxes. We're backing up to multiple destinations. Hard to find a solution that supports everything in one UI. Backup policies, rotation, deduplication, compression help us keep storage in check.
Cons: (1) Zmanda passed through a couple of acquisitions which slowed updates several years ago. But we're now seeing regular releases and updates, improved documentation, and responsive support. (2) Also, but it helps to be Linux savvy, though the UI and installation workflows have been improved quite a bit in the last 2 releases.
Overall: Great option for us and probably many other companies that are spending 10x more on other names. Now that release pace has kicked back up, it's an easy recommendation.
