Error with TiLP and Ti83+

Hi, I'm running TiLP2 v. 1.17, compiled from source using the install script from the website.
I'm running Ubuntu (in the form of easy peasy) on a 32-bit machine.
My calculator is the TI-83+SE and I have a SilverLink cable.

Currently the issue is that the calculator will not communicate for sending or receiving any files.

While TiLP is loading and probing for what calculator is attached the calculator responds, but once TiLP loads, the calculator stops responding and I can't send or receive anything. When I try to send or receive, I get this error

Msg: timeout occured while reading from the device.
Cause: check that link cable is plugged and/or the calculator is ready.
System: Resource temporarily unavailable (errno = 11)

I am running as root and the calculator is turned on and ready
