Please keep working on The File Seeker! It may not have
a hope of competing with some of the new User-Friendly
searches available, but it's awesome as a Power User's
search tool!
While command line stuff is nice, to do anything
quickly you a simple yet powerful GUI that responds to
both the keyboard and mouse quickly.
Some thoughts:
1) Double-Clicking a found file automatically opens the
folder the file is contained in, or attempts to launch
the file.
2) Right-Clicking should list an option to get file
info, so you can Right-Click and hit "Info" which
brings up the standard windows file information box(if
possible).
3) If the index hasn't been updaed in a day,
automatically do so upon the first search without
asking(or have an option to enable/disable this).
4) Remove the 'Get Firefox' logo and back button -
automatically start in the find files screen, and add a
preferences menu to handle options.
5) Make text search by default search all files, or
have a radio-button option to flip between "All Files"
and "Document Files", which would be .txt, .rtf, .doc,
etc. - Any power user would find the ini that lets you
add formats in no time. The box to type them into is
unnecessary.
6) Support standard explorer commands - responding to
things like the delete key, F2 to rename, Ctrl+C to
copy, etc. Ideally you could try to get it close to how
explorer displays files in folders under 'details'.
Just some thoughts. Please don't add a lame sidepanel
though. I hate those things and disable them whenever
possible.
I hope you keep working on this, and keep up the good work!
