Written for the Sonic Heritage compilation -
citiesandmemory.bandcamp.com/album/sonic-heritage
A project that asked musicians to create tracks out of sound recordings.
I used the recording by Serge Bulat who wrote -
"Set against the backdrop of the Tombs of the Kings in Paphos Necropolis, this field recording explores the haunting silence of this ancient burial site. Carved into the rock, the tombs stand still, their solemn quiet broken only by a distant low rumble - perhaps from the nearby port or the hum of the city itself. This subtle noise weaves through the soundscape, creating an eerie contrast to the otherwise profound stillness of the place.
As the recording unfolds, it highlights how elusive true silence has become in the modern world. The tombs, once filled with sacred rituals, now coexist with the steady flow of contemporary life. The rumble serves as a reminder of the constant presence of the modern world, making it clear how challenging it is to find peace in today’s ever-noisy environment.
UNESCO listing: Tombs of the Kings"
I then wrote " A lost cause" incorporating Serge's track into mine.
I hope you enjoy it.
