Etsy photo size: what Etsy asks for, and a free way to get there

Etsy recommends listing photos at least 2000 pixels wide and high, needs the first photo to be at least 635 × 635 px to avoid ranking lower, and warns that files over 1 MB may not finish uploading. Step by step

  1. Add your photos to the box above (drag them in, choose them, or paste one). Several at once is fine.
  2. Keep Best · products & objects selected. The first time, your browser downloads the model once (about 115 MB) and keeps it; the photos themselves are never uploaded.

Why Etsy photos get cropped badly, and how to avoid it

Etsy shows the same listing photo in several shapes: square in search grids, landscape on the listing page and portrait in some app views. Its help page says to shoot “further back than you think you'll need” and keep the product in the centre, so every crop still shows all of it. Transparent PNGs turn black on Etsy

Etsy doesn't support transparency: “the transparent parts of the image will appear black”. If you removed a background, export it on white (or a colour) as a JPG for Etsy. Keep transparent PNGs for your own shop, Canva or mock-ups.

Staying under 1 MB at 2000+ px

A 3000 × 2250 photo sounds big, but a product on a plain white background compresses well. Our two test exports at Etsy size were 234 KB and 353 KB as JPGs, well under the 1 MB Etsy warns about. Busy backgrounds are what make photos heavy, which is one more reason to remove them.
