Buy The Galaxy is an incremental digging game set in space. Go from planet to planet, dig out resources, upgrade, make money and eventually buy the whole galaxy!

Context:

This is a very short prototype which should show the feel of the game. It's missing a lot of content (namely techtree, various upgrades, etc). If you like what you see and want to see a proper full version of the game, please let me know in the comments!

Expect around 10 minutes of gameplay.

its super fun id like to see a full game for browser if its not already

good start, but the cost of planets scales way too fast later on, leading to having to redo the same easy planet several times. I assume you plan to have upgrades to get more money later on, but you probably also need to increase the scaling for the energy upgrades later on.

At prestige level 8, the game becomes incredibly laggy for the smaller planets.

I assume the game isn't balanced up to that level. I always found it weird how idle game demos don't have an ending. Just a point where it stops being fun.

Incremental game freak, I am talking about doing nothing for 2 days every time I pick one up.

I got the exact same tingles and feeling I do, played for a few hours, but then got stuck on the 26th planet, it was incrementing too slow and took away my flow and prompted me to come here to tell you

Also prestige only resetting money is a strange but welcome thing, I seriously hate prestiging then spam clicking cheap upgrades.

I loved the core gameplay, but when it comes to mid-late game, early planets become invisible because of zoom out, and at intense case, it cause a massive lag somehow.

I hope there's size / zoom limit if planet will be too small, skip button for planets that became too small for worm, or "Keep # planets on reset" kind of upgrade in full game ❤

Nice hook, great sense of progression.

Would love if my worm could get longer, maybe with his increase in energy?

i playeded a good 40 minutes, but i have to say, while addictive it wasnt as much fun for me. the gameplay is really repetitive, and i think i would have liked to use my brain a bit more haha

As a small prototype, I'd say it is an 8/10. Really makes me look forward to the full game.
Setting the obvious performance\balancing\missing features issues aside, here are some ideas:
1. If the platen is small enough to be eaten in 1 "bite", pressing "Play" on it should just give you the reward without playing the level, possibly with a small cooldown;
2. Not sure if it is a bug, but later planets often get stuck on 99\100 progress. There should probably be an upgrade that shows the nearest resource block's location;
3. Some variety to the gameplay loop would be nice, like having to ram the iron with a special ability, having to coil around uranium and such.

I've really enjoyed this game but have absolutely hit the end, for me.

At prestige 7, my first planets are too small to see, and trying to guess where they are worked for the first but the combination of lag and invisibility meant I'm unable to find the second planet.

A fix for this might be to have a minimum planet size (no matter which planet, it can't be less than, say, 20 pixels across), or to start on a later planet depending on how far the player got on their previous run.

My second observation is that lag becomes a bit of an issue on higher planets. Is there a way of planets have a maximum pixel size to reduce this? Increasing hardness might be a workaround for balance.

I hope you continue with this project, it's a lot of fun to play!

Wish there was a way to upgrade income after prestiging.  Tons of lag after prestige 7, you literally can't see the early asteroids because they're too small.  Planets after 30 or so are crazy expensive, and it's the same thing over and over.

That aside, I found this game really fun.

Needs either a max buy button or automation for planet purchase after prestige.

heyy the game is AWESOME.  Maybe add some things and expand a little bit and release it as a full game.  You already have core fun loop down.

One thing I didn't like was the scaling after prestige. It seems  robot gets too large IMO. But I liked that you can prestige with little effort.

Expected play time 10 minutes? I am 20 hours in and only a third of the way to the center of the Galaxy.

Fun game.

Rendering/Art needs some optimization:

- Ensure minimal size of planet (to be several pixels large);

- Increase "contrast" of resource dots (comparing to non-resource dots).

Immediately feels pretty nice, appreciate the speedup button greatly, and the 2x bonus for full clearing a planet is nice. The basic gameplay loop is definitely there, reminds me of To the Core, which I imagine was probably an inspiration here.

A few planets later, I can't help but notice there seems to be no real incentive to linger on any of them. I clear a planet and that gives me enough to just buy the next planet, which gives more money, and one clear gives enough for the next planet...fewer planets that you spent longer at would feel much more nicely paced. The 4th planet only took me 2 quick rounds of digging to the center for the high-value materials to afford the next planet, and that's only because I got unlucky with ore spawns on the first round. My only upgrade is energy level 5, for context.

Yeah, the loop of constantly interrupting the fun part of gameplay to go back to the galaxy menu and buy the next planet gets pretty annoying, should definitely have fewer planets that are harder to buy, I think, so the player can actually focus on the digging part for longer at a time. ...Oh, already at the first prestige.

Prestige feels nice, a good, chunky leap in power, feels very satisfying to play. ...Definitely confirms how annoying the loop is of going back to the galaxy menu, clicking next until the green number turns red, then clicking back, buy, and play, though. Maybe planet automation would work, automatically buy the highest planet the player can afford and place them there between rounds? Just give it a toggle so the player can save their money if they want to, but buying planets as soon as you can seems to be optimal, so automation for it would be nice. Let me buy some upgrades and see if any automation shows up.

Running into another issue that becomes apparent at around prestige level 4 for me. When you reach a certain size, the individual chunks of the planet become so small you can't see where the remaining ore is. Combined with the increasingly high energy levels, this results in me circling around nipping at the last pixelated remnants of the planet trying to get the full clear for that sweet 2x bonus. I'm not a developer, so take this with a grain of salt, but the easiest fix I can think of off the top of my head for this is to only require a percentage of the ore to be collected starting at some point before the rest are harvested for you. Something like, when you've got 98% of it, the last remaining pixels are cleared automatically since the player can't actually see them anymore. And yes, I do know there's a button to abort the level, but I want the 2x full clear bonus, being forced to abort the level constantly would suck.

At prestige level six now, I'm so large that I can barely see the first asteroid anymore. And since I'm forced to start on it, I often miss the asteroid entirely since my mouse was placed on the "Play" button to start the level, and with my scale (and thus speed) being so high, I quickly soar off into the distance. It's getting harder and harder to see where the asteroid actually is in order to steer myself back towards it, it's naught but a spec now. Could probably use some sort of level borders that scale with the player's size to remedy this so you can visually see the area the planet should be in. Something simple like just a red ring would work fine, it doesn't even need to block movement, just be visible to indicate where the asteroid is.

Ending at prestige level 6, and the energy upgrade at level 51. Could really use a "buy max" option for upgrades, I had to actually click it 50 times. Never unlocked any other upgrades though, so obviously no automation. Anyway, hope this feed back can be useful to the dev, I'd definitely pay, like...$5 for an expanded, polished version of this. $10 if it's really good and has a good amount of content.

At prestige 7 there's a massive performance drop with the first few planets.

And the price jump between planets after 30 is getting really harsh.

Nice game, but I got stuck after ascending a few times, because the first planets are getting so small, that you have to hope that you go in the right direction, because they are invisible.

Interesting game! Definitely fun!
At first my reaction was that it was not interesting enough. Like there were no real strategic decisions to make. (note that I never play these kind of games).

Then, when I hit "prestige 1", I became hooked. Wow what I did before is now done super easily. Gives you a big kick. I like it. I see the appeal now. :)

Good implementation. Good UI. Good job.

I like it!  You have to get a perfect to get the next planet or maybe you can buy planets of the same type, but need to complete all the rocky planets before you can access the gas giants.

I would play a longer version.

this is amazing!

oh this is fun, i spent way more time eating things than i needed to considering i knew there wasn't any further content lol. i know it's just a prototype so this is possibly stuff you already have in mind! but as i was playing i thought:
- it could maybe use a zoom function, for when you get really big and somehow manage to miss a single teeny tiny block and can't see it :')
- maybe an upgrade to skip planets you can eat in one bite anyway? i got to the point where i couldn't even see the first planet XD
- it'd be neat if there was some type of lore, like upgrades where you make an agreement with some other aliens or something to sell certain minerals for more money? doesn't need to be detailed, just something to make it feel more complex of a universe i guess!
- an upgrade to make our drone longer, i don't know what this would mean gameplay wise but i feel like we should be able to give it more segments it along with just making it bigger, it would feel more like growing, it looks so short....
- actually along with that we should get character customization where i can make it purple. this is no longer a serious suggestion and i'll stop here lol
:D super look forward to seeing more?

I would definitely love a full version of this game! I really like this concept, especially if you can add different upgrades and some quality of life stuff, maybe keyboard shortcuts for things like quick replay and finish? But definitely keep going with this, it is really quite satisfying to devour whole planets

As you get bigger, the early planets run slower and slower. I'm not sure why. Are you rendering blocks for outer space? Whatever it is, you need to fix it or the game eventually becomes unplayable.

Also, you need an upgrade to increase how much resources you get or something like that. The later planets you have to beat quite a few times to reach the next planet, and after several prestiges when the planet is tiny, you'll still need to beat it just as many times. And upgrading resource acquisition would mean you can skip through worlds faster at the beginning so you don't spend so long eating a tiny dot. Or maybe just make it so eventually you skip the starting planets. Maybe let you upgrade starting money or starting planet too.

Also, it's easy to end up with one pixel left and not see where it is. I'd make them colored more clearly, but also make it so you need islands of a certain size (based on how big you are) for them to count against you in completing the planet. At the beginning, you have to eat every pixel, but at the end, five pixels on their own shouldn't count. Either that or make the resources glow once there's only a little left or something.

Yeah, having the slowdown too. Also, planet 33 has notably less value than 32, despite 33's jump to "Get x128 resources". Like 50 mil for a 32 clear, 20 mil for planet 33...

seems very fun, 1 sugestion: multi prestige. so instead of only being able to do 1 prestigr at a time if i can hit the one 2 ahead of what i am then i can skip the next one and go stright to it.

Since there are no upgrades regarding planet resource amount or value, the current soft-capped limit are the following:

  1. Planet 25.
  2. Energy 64.
  3. Prestige 6.

I like the gameplay loop, it's satisfying and you feel powerful.

(2 edits)

I'm already way past these limits and no sign of slowdown or soft-capping.

Lovely game.

EDIT: I spoke too soon.  Game became unplayable for me after prestige 8.  Was at maybe planet 28 before prestiging then planet 1 was unplayable.  That suggests maybe an issue with very small values because planet 1 will be tiny at that point.

I see someone else got to planet 33+, which implies the rendering of planet 1 is system dependent.   Changing browser zoom magnification or display resolution didn't make a difference on my system.

Until save is implemented, no point in reloading the game to see if reload makes a difference.
