Nelson, ITIS and others (including specialist Guy Duhamel of the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle) place Macroramphosinae, containing genera Centriscops, Macroramphosus, and Notopogon, as family Macroramphosidae. In this placement, the subfamily Centriscinae is unnecessary and is regarded as a synonym of Centriscidae. FishBase places Centriscops humerosus, the only species of Centriscops, in Centriscinae rather than in Macroramphosinae.
