Why We Chose This
The story of the Nakagin Capsule Tower is told through the MoMA exhibition The Many Lives of the Nakagin Capsule Tower, on view through July 12, 2026. Designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, the tower presented a radically new vision for urban living. The structure was located in Tokyo's Ginza district and consisted of 140 single-occupancy capsules. Once a symbol of Japan’s postwar techno-futurism, the building was controversially demolished in 2022 after years of deferred maintenance.
Authenticity Guarantee
At MoMA Design Store, all of the designs we sell are curator-approved and authentic. We ensure the integrity of our products through research and by working closely with the designers. Our products embody the spirit of good design objects in MoMA's collection. Some of them are actual designs represented in the Museum's collection.
