All Aboard It's Circus Time!

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am excited to share a card I created using some of the new Karen Burniston dies which are being released this month. As well as many new dies making an appearance this release, there is one die making a comeback which is the Barn Pop Stand die set.

About 4 years ago, I created a card where I changed the Barn into a Circus Tent, so I decided to do that for my card today. I always love being able to do more than one thing with a die set.

I used 13 die sets to create this card because I have all of Karen Burniston's die sets. But this design is easy to adapt so you can use what you do have.

Here is how to convert the Barn into a Circus Tent
  • Die cut  the barn from cardstock and then drew a line at the point where the roof starts to form a triangle (of sorts). This will be your pattern.
  • Measure in from the left side 1/4 inch and make a mark on the line you created above, then at every 1/2 inch until you are left with 1/4 inch on the right hand side of the barn. Do the same at the bottom of the barn and join up these marks as per my photo above.
  • Next take a ruler and line up each mark with the centre point of the top of the roof and draw a line.
  • Die cut 3 barns - one in white; 1 in red and another in red which has double sided adhesive tape added to the top of it.
  • Use the pattern above to cut the red and white barns and adhere them to the barn with the adhesive.
  • Die cut the scallop edge from the Border Blends - Argyle die set. (Tip: I positioned the die a little from the edge of the cardstock and used the negative part of the scallop, this way I could make it the depth I wanted to suit my tent. Adhere across the room line.
  • Cut a strip of white card approx 1/8 inch wide and adhere there to the top of the scallop border we attached in the above step.
  • Cut up the middle of the 'tent' to approx 1/4 inch from the roof line and fold back the card to create the tent flap.
  • Use left over white pieces to add white to the inside of the tent flaps.
  • If you are creating a Pop Stand Card you will need to repeat these steps to create a second tent, but for this one you don't need to create a tent flap.

Because Karen is also releasing a train die set too, I decided to incorporate that into my card too adding various animals to the carriages. I used the train from the Train Pivot Panels die set and the train tracks are from the Train Elements die set.  The animals are from the Chicken, Pig and Lamb; Cow and Goat & Dog and Cat die sets.

I also added a few clowns to my card to give it a circus feel using an older stamp set in my stash .... CC Designs Clownin' Around.

The flag on the circus tent is from the Tag Book Pop Up die set, however there are a number of die sets that contain flags of various types which could be used.

Here is an overhead shot of my card, so you can see the whole inside of my card at once.

I used the "Enjoy The Ride" die set, substituting the word "ride" with the word "Circus" which was made up using letters from the following die sets: Celebrate (C); Happy Birthday (ir); Congrats (c, u and s).

For the front of the card, I added another train filled with animals ... I guess my circus has farm animals instead of the normal circus animals haha!

I also added the "All Aboard!" sentiment which is another of the dies from the Train Elements die set. This was layered using the Crosshatch Ovals die set.

Howdy Just Chicken In

Hi Crafty Friends,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Being a brand new month it is time to introduce our new challenge hostess which is Karen Ostergard.

Apparently today is National Fried Chicken Day in the U.S.  For today's challenge, create a card with a bird on it.

Seeing it is National Fried Chicken Day, I decided the bird I would use on my card would be Karen Burniston's new chicken die from the Chicken, Pig and Lamb die set.

I have created a pop stand card using the Barn Pop Stand Card die set, which is being re-released. For something different I decided to create a pink barn. Karen Burniston recently shared with the Design Team an idea of using the fence from the Farm Edges die set on either side of the barn. As I was adding chickens to my card I decided to add the chicken wire instead of the fence.

The barn doors open up to reveal another chicken inside the barn which is behind some chicken wire.

I added the fence from the Farm Edges die set. I added another chicken on the left hand side of my card and a sentiment on the right which is layered onto the rectangle from the Rectangles - Crosshatch die set.

This is a view of the back of my card. I used the tractor border which is also from the Farm Edges die set and a sun which is from the Tropical Scene die set.

One last photo of the inside of the card showing an overhead shot of my card, so you can see the whole card at one time.

For the front of the card I added two of the papers I used on the inside. I also added the fence to separate the two papers.

On the lower left hand corner I added another chicken to which I added a hat and pitchfork which are from the Accessories 3 die set.

On the top right hand side of the card I added the "Howdy" sentiment from the Howdy die set. I then added the "Chicken In" sentiment which is from an old stamp set in my stash which unfortunately is no longer available. After stamping the sentiment onto my cardstock, I then used one of the arms from the Photo Collage Pop-up to die cut the sentiment. I love when you find another use for a die.

Christmas is Love with all the Trimmings

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am  sharing another sneak peek of some of the new dies being released by Karen Burniston next month. Many of you will be excited to see the return of the Christmas Tree Pop Stand die set, I know I am!

I used the Christmas Tree Pop Stand die set for the centre of my card, it was fun to be able to create with this die set again. I have a few cards on my blog from when this was previously available which you can see here

I added ovals to both sides of my card using the Crosshatch Ovals die set. One I left blank so that this can be used for a personal greeting. On the other I added the new Merry Christmas sentiment.

Here is another view of my card so you can see both sides of my card a little better.

And finally the front of the card. As you can see I added two more Christmas trees using the negative part which comes out when you die cut the largest tree. I also added a sentiment which is stamped onto another oval from the Crosshatch Ovals die set.

To decorate all my trees I added Red/Gold Glitter Dots Peel Off Stickers.

The new September Karen Burniston / KB Riley LLC release is now available for pre order and will  begin shipping 10th September. For your convenience I have included links to all the new release products below.

Perfect Blend

Hi Crafty Friends,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Maryann Einam our challenge hostess for the month continues to issue the challenges.

Perfect Blend - Create a card  with coffee for inspiration in the form of colours, stamps or dies.

This was the perfect opportunity to pull out my Karen Burniston Coffee Cup Pop-up Card die set and play with it again. This time around I paired it with some stamps, dies and stencils from Honey Bee Stamps.

I used the Honey Bee Stamps Coffee Lovers Background Stencils to create the coffee bean background and also the coffee stains on the kraft and brown cardstock. The sentiments are also from the Honey Bee Stamps Perfect Blend Stamp & die sets.

I used the curvy border from the Twist Panel Pop-up die set to create the curvy edge at both edges of the card. The sentiments are stamped onto labels from the Katherine Label Pop-up Card die set.

Here is an overhead shot of my card so you can see the whole inside of the card at one time.

For the front of the card I kept to a similar layout as the inside of the card adding a coffee cup and sentiment again from Honey Bee Stamps.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details.

My Little Pirate

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am sharing another card using some of the new Karen Burniston die set released in January.

This time around I have used the Palm Tree Pop-up die set to create my pirate scene card. To start I used Distress Oxide Inks to color the base of my card. I then die cut the pop-up die that comes with the Palm Tree Pop-up die set towards the back of my card and die cut the pop up palm tree and two smaller palm trees also included in the set. I assembled my palm tree and attached it to the card.

I used a combination of three different pirate themed stamp sets to create the background scene. And added a dashed line trail around the whole card.

I stamped some of the images onto white cardstock and cut them out using my Scan N Cut and adhere them to my card. I attached the two pirates to the pop up palm trees and also added a pirate to one of the trees.

I hand cut the lake to the shape I wanted and colored that also using distress oxide inks.

I used the Word Set 5 - Royalty die set to die cut the "My Little on the fishtail banner and then added the word "pirate" to the right hand side of the banner using white embossing ink.

Above the banner I stamped "Happy Birthday". I used the Numbers die set to add the "8th" to the card. As my Grandson will be turning 8 in a few months, I will probably use this for his birthday card.

For the front of my card, I continued my pirate scene. I used distress oxide inks to color my sky and sand areas of my card.

For the beach area, I used the Tropical Scene and Nature Edges die sets, adding another two pirates to the beach. The sun is also from the Tropical Scene die set.

I die cut the "Happy Birthday" from red and black cardstock and adhered them to each other offsetting slightly so the black showed a slight border and added this sentiment to the top of the card.

To finish off the card I added a couple of birds in the sky.

Here is a look at my card when it is half closed, so you can see how the palm tree folds towards the side of the card as it is closing.

December 2017 Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our December Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

This month the theme for our challenge is ...."TREES, PLEASE!" - incorporate a tree (any tree) for a card with a winter/holiday theme.

As Christmas is only a few weeks away I decided to use the Christmas Tree Pop-up die set to create my card.

The red and white side panels were created using a Simon Says Stamp background stamp which I stamped in red. I used gold gilding flakes for the thin strip of card, the gold ornaments on the tree and the gold layer on the sentiment panel.

Along the bottom edge of the card I used the snow edge from the Nature Edges die set, covering them with glitter. I added the penguin from the Winter Animals die set, and a tree from the Winter Charms die set to the lower left hand side of my card.

On the lower right hand side I added the sleigh from the Sleigh Pop-up die set which is covered in red and gold glitter.

I used the "Merry Christmas" sentiment from the Word Set 2 - Holiday Greetings die set which has been layered onto the label from the Katherine Label Pop-up die set.

For the front of the card I used the striped background again.

Along the bottom edge I added another snow edge which is covered in glitter.

I added another sleigh this time with the penguin inside the sleigh rather than beside it.

The sentiment is another from the Word Set 2 - Holiday Sentiments again layered using the label from the Katherine Label Pop-up die set. This time around I cut off the top edge level with the top of the card.

Here you can see my card as it is closing, the Christmas tree folds towards the front and cannot be seen when the card is closed.

Don't forget to visit Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month.

Santa & Elves at the North Pole

Hi Crafty Friends,

It's challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. Joanne Grzelak our challenge hostess for the month continues to issue the challenges.

This week we are going to make a card for our holiday stash. You can make a Christmas card, a New Year’s card, or a winter card…..whichever you think you need the most for your stash.

As you can see, I decided to make another Christmas card for our challenge this week. I used the Sleigh Pop-Up die set from Karen Burniston which gives you the option of making a normal style pop up card where you have the card at 90 degrees or a pop stand (flat) style where you have the card at 180 degrees. I went for the second option for this card.

To decorate my card I used Riley and Company's Dress Up Riley; Dress Up Riley Christmas Outfits and Tucker the Dog.

On both edges of my card I added a snow border from the Nature Edges die set also from Karen Burniston. I covered the snow with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter. I also added the North Pole Sign which is a stamp/die set from Hero Arts.

On the edge that is the front view of the card, I added the "Merry Christmas" from the Words Set 3 Holidays die set.

Here is another view of the inside of my card. "Santa" and the "Reindeer" are only seen from the front view of the card, not from the other side.

For the front of my card I added another border of snow from the Nature Edges die set.

I added the Paper Layering Wooden Door to the left side of the card and another sign to the door using the North Pole Sign Stamp/die set.

On the right hand side of the card I added another of the Dress Up Riley images, this time dressed as an elf.

Don't forget to check out the CCEE Stampers blog (goes live 12 AM EST) to see the rest of the creations the CCEE Stampers created this week. You can also see more details of their creations on their individual blogs:
