Everything Must Go!

Rob Moss Shades of Quadrophenia filtered through Kokanee-soaked maple leaves that produce its own thing, Star Collector's Everything Must Go offers a wide range of sounds to enjoy. As a fan of songs with fakeout endings, I have to go with Shakedown The Breakdown as my favorite of the album. Even with a more straightforward ending, it'd still be my fave, but there's so much here, it's hard to pick a single top tune.  Favorite track: Shakedown The Breakdown.

davidhuggy7 Star Collector blend rock, mod & pop so well, that nostalgia & modernity hit simultaneously!
The title track, "Everything Must Go" is pure S C. A mix of rock, infused with enough "Mod" you wonder where you parked your Lambretta. A generous 13 track album showcases Vic Wayne's meaningful lyrics, Steve Monteith's soaring guitar, and a solid rhythm section that often leads tracks such as "Queen Bed". Heavier than previous albums, but with slower gems like "Your Version of Me". Brilliant, as always! Favorite track: Your Version Of Me.

Hey… Come along for the show Hey… Everything must go! Yeah, we all Once Were Warriors So, Warriors, come out to play We’re starring in our own feature Don’t let the numbers get in our way Hey… Come along for the show Hey… Everything must go! (cause you can’t hold on to it) So, make up with your make-up And get your glitter out on the floor Stare at you like you’re an alien Get out or spaced, get out of the door Hey… Come on out for the show Hey… Everything must go! (cause you can’t hold on to it) Hey… You can’t buy tomorrow So, today… Everything must go! (cause you can’t hold on) So, maybe we’ve no money to burn And maybe only hell to pay We ain’t any richer than our memories Can’t put a price on feelin’ this way… (c’mon!) Hey… Come along for the show Hey… Everything must go! Hey… You can’t buy tomorrow So, today … Everything must go! (cause you can’t hold on to it) And I can’t hold on to it No, we can’t hold on to it… (2, 3, 4!)

And we rolled in Boots and suits and magical And they strolled in Cocksure and so cynical And they tried To make us feel so pitiful And we laughed And we laughed… And we kept To ourselves, we didn’t care at all And they joked, Poked and prodded so we’d fall And we left Thinking we might show them all And we laughed And we laughed And we laughed… Cause we took off our Masques and dove in headfirst With no goin’ back… After all The game’s to tread your own path Try to make you small The shame is always theirs by half And I recall The kids who made it beautiful And laughed The last laugh As we danced Round the amps And we laughed and did the victory dance…

Once in your life I wanna stand like a shining example Cause what’s in your life Means the universe to me Once in your life You wanna stand like a shining example But it’s your life And you always shine to me Yeah, they’re makin’ more love Yeah, they’re makin’ more pretty green Yeah, they’re shakin’ the rust off impatience but so what?.. but so what? A shot in the dark Shooting stars, like a shining example No walk in the park But a spark can be enough Dream what you dream And you’ll beam like a shining example The crop of the cream Is the tastiest stuff So, they’re all salivating So, they’re all satiating So, they’re chasin’ the dime of temptation but so what?.. but so what? Once in my life I wanna stand like a shining example Cause what’s in your life Means the universe to me Once in your life You wanna stand like a shining example Cause it’s your life And that’s all it needs to be Oh, all of your life You will stand like a shining example Cause all of my life You’ll always shine to me…

Queen Bed 04:45
So, you’re starting out anew And you’re not sure what to do Never not plus-one’d before All the questions that they’ll pose And cheer the emperor’s new clothes While you fidget ‘bout the ghost behind the door What’s the point in getting dressed? Who cares if your hair’s a mess? Why not stay in bed all day? The invite sits upon your chest Daring you to don that vest Will you pass their test or fetal up again? It’s fight or flight To be here tonight It’s fight or flight To be here tonight Out of place and out of mind Get there in your own sweet time Why does everybody think they know what’s right and best for you? Too much space and too much wine Remembering your own sweet times In the silence, in your queen bed built for two But it’s just you… All the couples dancing through Purse their lips and sad-eye you Hear them whispering your name The third or fifth wheel’s all the same You feel so odd and fake and lame All you can do not to run away It’s fight or flight… Out of place and out of mind Get there in your own sweet time Why does everybody think they know what’s right and best for you? Too much space and too much wine Remembering your own sweet times In the silence, in the mirror, there are two But it’s just you… Sometimes we all fall apart Sometimes love will break your heart But ask yourself, what would they want for you? Sometimes we all fall apart Sometimes love will break your heart But ask yourself, what would they want for you? Maybe a queen bed built for two?

Round in circles on this train I let you let me down again And you told me it was true There was nothing you could do Didn’t it mean a thing to you? So, it seems I’m to blame Couldn’t wade through your shame… Ahh… All black nostalgia Round in circles on this train A tangled web and its refrain Did our history’s review Was two decades overdue Didn’t it mean a thing to you? Saw your Halo Of Flies Through The Lies In Your Eyes… Ahh… All black nostalgia, now Round in circles on this train Now I’m left with this disdain Saw your colours coming through There it was, the brutal truth I didn’t mean a thing to you (but get this…) Read your words from A to Z Closed my eyes, counted to three You didn’t mean a thing to me You didn’t mean a fucking thing to me…

Kicking the cautious into the light Biting the bullet, it’s alright Bringing the baby into the bright And I don’t mind Turning the empty, spark to the frame Fueling the darkness with the flame Cheating the devil, That Hell-Bound Train And I don’t mind You can have it your way And it’s okay To say what you wanna Do what you wanna And roll that rock Up that hill And out it goes The sweetest pill Buckle your bootstraps, lace ‘em up tight Chasing a pipe dream, it’s alright Embracing the bullshit and the fight And I don’t mind You can have it your way And it’s okay To say what you wanna Write what you wanna And roll that rock Up that hill And down it goes The bitter pill Scream into the vacuum and suck up the crickets Stroke you, provoke you and everyone’s a critic… And roll that rock Up that hill Rock that roll The only pill…

Overblown 03:57
I… can’t even look at you right now and I… I can’t believe it’s true right now You’d curse the devil you know For the heart of the great unknown Would you really be better on your own? With all the words you say And all the hurt and the ghosts in play The devil you know might just walk away… I… can’t even think straight right now and I… can’t even sleep a wink right now You’d burn the devil you know For the heat of the great unknown Would you really be better off alone? It’s the words that kill Bitter as a final pill The devil you know might just test your will… You’d spurn the devil you know For the hand of the great unknown Would you really be better on your own? (so overblown) The line that keeps us sane (so overblown) The fragile line between pleasure and pain (so overblown) The devil you know loves you anyway… and this is overblown Overblown

Heavy On You 04:31
Seems like the birds know the storm is coming I don’t hear them singing at all When I open my door I don’t hear them anymore Seems like the lemmings don’t know when to cut and run You pay the piper standing still Too close to close your window Still, you know you don’t want to know Heavy on you and your minds so small Heavy on you and you’re bound to fall… The ego has landed, so dangerous and dumb The sheep get branded again Like doe-eyed lambs to the slaughter With maggots running ‘round your brain Heavy on you and your big red wall Heavy on you like a cannonball A special kind of fresh hell When you look at yourself Heavy on you and your mirrorball… Heavy on you and your minds so small Heavy on you and you’re bound to fall Heavy on you and your conscience, y’all Heavy on you like a cannonball A special kind of fresh hell When you look at yourself Heavy on you and your mirrorball… Seems like the birds know the storm is coming…

Heart-smart, better than head-smart Gave you a headstart, hitting the ground Brown hair and those brown eyes How the time flies when she’s around Feeling up on the ceiling Had you reeling, and reeled you in And heart-smart, better than head-smart Gave you a head start so you might win You played it right You played it right She said, “Come over and play me a song again tonight” Brain dead, in some strange bed You were spoon fed a pack of lies Your cold plate filled with old dates She said “Just wait”, you’re down to size Jackass, you were a dumbass Thought it was badass all the while And bushwhacked, you felt ransacked But still gobsmacked by that smile You played it right… The best decision you ever made was doing nothing at all The best decision you ever made was waiting it out The best decision you ever made was choosing not to call Sometimes the best thing is the best thing you don’t do… The best decision you ever made was doing nothing at all The best decision you ever made was shutting your mouth The best decision you ever made was choosing not to call Sometimes the best thing is the best thing you don’t do… You played it right… You played it right… She’s the best thing… the best thing…

Static 03:39
Waist deep in the snow And you can’t move at all Sinking in the quicksand But outside you fail to fall You don’t appear erratic But all you hear is static In Marco Polo dark You search for evidence You put it into park And scream, “It makes no sense.” While you fear the dramatic All you hear is static Coming out of nowhere, your whole universe Searching for a chorus in a never-ending verse Looking like a blessing, and feeling like a curse It comes and it goes in waves… Though you appear ecstatic All you hear is static It’s like you’re on automatic All you hear is static And it’s weird and traumatic When you hear only static You don’t appear erratic But all you feel is static…

Section 8 03:46
It’s funny how things rarely go as planned We think that we hold it, it’s all in our hands Guess sometimes that’s true, we make our own bed But sometimes the control is all in our head The kid don’t ask, the kid don’t get The kid says, “I’m not ready yet” But it’s action and it’s fate Out in Section 8 When you least expect it, it drops in your lap It’s crazy how sometimes there ain’t no map But a wise old punk said you can’t live in fear, no And thought minus action only comes to zero The kid don’t ask, the kid don’t get The kid says, “I’m not ready yet” But it’s traction and it’s fate Out in Section 8 it’s traction and it’s fate Out in Section 8 Call it karma, call it a sign It’s all working by design Still you’ve got to play the odds A bit of luck and a touch of the gods… It’s funny how things rarely go as planned… The kid don’t ask, the kid don’t get The kid says, “I’m not ready yet” But it’s reaction and it’s fate Out in Section 8 The kid don’t ask, the kid don’t get The kid can sit alone and fret But it’s action and it’s fate Out in Section 8 It’s action and it’s fate Out in Section 8 It’s action and it’s fate Out in Section 8…

Snowblind When moonlight Just grinds you away But in time A goldmine Will light up the grey We’re comin’ through We’re comin’ through We’re comin’ true To shakedown the breakdown Your daylight’s comin’ around Shakedown the breakdown We all need a gang in this cold town… It’s divine There’s sunshine At dawn every day One of a kind A gold mind Silver-lined anyway You’re comin’ true You’re comin’ true You’re comin’ through To shakedown the breakdown… Shakedown the breakdown Your daylight’s comin’ around Shakedown the breakdown The hourglass upside down Shakedown the breakdown Your daylight’s comin’ around Shakedown the breakdown We all need a gang in this cold, We all need a gang in this cold town…

You were banking on a new religion A grift you kept on the sly I was blinded by your double vision But floating out of your black sky I see… I’m not your version of me You were plotting your escape route A plan to run and duck and hide Thought I was safe inside your refuge But from the cold distance of time I see… I’m not your version of me Everyone sees what they wanna see A million miles apart in the same room Where the silent conversation bleeds I tore at the weeds Got up off my knees… You were on a solo mission Save yourself and no one else I was banking on a new religion Til I drifted from your spell Now, I’m free… and not your version of me And I’ll never be… your version of me

about

Star Collector's seventh album was produced by Vocalist/Guitarist/Songwriter Vic Wayne & engineered/mixed/mastered by Drummer/Vocalist Adrian Buckley (w/ David Ziehr & Ryan Worsley). This time, Vic's co-writers are: Jody Porter (Fountains Of Wayne), Ian Person (The Soundtrack Of Our Lives), Adam East (Sweetjuice), Dave Lawson (Jr. Gone Wild) & a number of songs with longtime Guitarist/Vocalist/Songwriter, Steve Monteith; all supported brilliantly by Buckley & Bassist Tony Kerr. Guests include: East, Renee Suchy (The Pursuit Of Happiness), Paul Myers (The Paul & John), Derek MacDonald (The Bad Beats), Kate O'Brien (Mosaic String Academy) & Victoria Racz (Orchestra Nova Northwest). Here the rock's rockier, the pop's poppier, and the moody's moodier, veering into some previously uncharted territory as the band continues to challenge expectation, while still staying true to their mod-influenced rock n' roll roots.

“We are all just a car crash, a diagnosis, an unexpected phone call, a newfound love, or a broken heart away from becoming a completely
different person. How beautifully fragile are we that so many things can take but a moment to alter who we are for forever?”
